91% OF CHICKS DIG IT
Okay
I regularly use Walmart pickup or even instacart (which I also drive for) so I'm familiar with this concept. I went into this thinking the items would be more expensive because obviously safeway vs walmart... so, yes, most items were more expensive. They did have some sales that were then cheaper. I also find their produce much better.
There were a few things for me that decreased my rating.
First, the cost for delivery is huge in my opinion. A minimum of $10 a month and that limits you to only weekday deliveries. The larger issue is that pickup is not available at most stores yet. So you HAVE to get it delivered unless you're driving to the other side of the city.
Second, you HAVE to be home and answer the door or they will not leave your groceries. I get why, but there should be an option to leave at door, and the customer is responsible then if the groceries sit too long or are stolen.
Third, they charge you 5 cents per bag but don't give any options to not get bags?
Last, the upselling while ordering is insane. You have to scroll down through ~50 items in order to get to the checkout screen. It's a little ridiculous.
So I'd say this is an "upscale" grocery service. If you can afford it and don't mind waiting around for your groceries, then you'll definitely get better produce and items. But if you want to save money or like more convenience, I wouldn't recommend Voila.
It needs a few updates
I really has high hopes for this grocery delivery service but I was let down
Pros:
- It was easy to register
- My delivery was accurate and arrived on time
- The paper bags were nice and only .15
Cons:
- There were no pickup locations near me so I had to choose delivery
- I was not able to order sliced deli meat from the deli counter (prepackaged only)
- I was charged more than the flyer advertised price on an item so I had to email customer service.
- I was never asked to add my Scene + card so I don't get any points. I found out AFTER that you have to go in and add the card to your profile.
- $7.99 for a delivery fee is too high.
- I was not able to customize my produce request (yellow bananas, soft avocados etc)
Voila order
I ordered for the first time from Voila. I have frequently used Walmart grocery and Instacart so was very used to those systems. I did not find it easy to navigate the website and many things I wanted to purchase that are actually available in this store were not on the website to purchase. I placed my order and received a confirmation email of my order. I did not receive another email, text etc until 30 min prior to my pickup saying my order would be ready at the appropriate time and that 4 of my items had been substituted for other products some smaller sizers at a much higher prices than the larger size I had ordered. I picked up my order and the gal was super friendly and professional. I declined the items I did not want that were substituted and the rest of my order was correct and in good condition. I do not think I will use Voila again however, as I found it very hard to use the website with minimal options available to me for the things I wanted. The other online systems I have used are much more user friendly and interactive with updates etc. about my order(ie. substitutions made ) and Walmart will substitute and not charge you a higher price for the item which is nice.
Convenient but unexpected fees
I used Voila to order all the groceries needed to make my husband's birthday dinner. It was incredibly convenient! I was able to order all the groceries while at work then pick up on the way home. The only drawback was all the added fees. Delivery times all had various fees added on plus a bagging fee was added with no option to remove unless you had the staff rebag at your car. The fees add up, which makes this a service I wouldn't use all the time.
Sobeys Voila was very easy to use and incredibly convenient. We were able to order our groceries from work and pick up on the way home. The drawback is all the added fees. Automatic extra fees for pickup and for bags add up making the service not worth the extra cost.
The price point was not right
I do like having the option to do pick up curb side especially in this environment where safety is paramount. So having the service available is a very very excellent option. I find Sobey’s price point not worth it compared to their competitors, and would prefer to take the majority of my business elsewhere. Not to mention there our compliments brand does not stack up to presidents choice or even great value through Real Canadian Superstore and Walmart.
Pick up service
Not able to access the weekly flyer thru app makes it hard to find sale items and there is a couple days wait time before able to pick up at least here in New Brunswick
Inconsistent
They don’t keep you up to date on the order and/or substitutions. I asked for Italian dressing and rather than substituting for something alike I was given ranch. The pricing was incorrect on the website so after a 30 minute mostly on hold phone call I was told they can’t honour the price that was on the website, but she could edit and correct the website. Thankfully I’ve only done two orders, both were inconsistent but I did them because I had two $15 off coupons. I won’t use them anymore until they learn how to do this better. They need to become more consistent and learn better customer service before I use them again.
Meh
Ordering online was painful. Website didn’t flow smoothly, as I tried moving back and forth between products, the page would reset, meaning I had to look for my items over again. Price wise, the groceries cost at least 20% more here, compared to my normal grocery store.
It was -37 when I picked up. The voila parking spots are out in the main parking lot, meaning my groceries were pushed out in open top bags, making some of my produce borderline frosty. There was no opportunity to swap to my cloth bags. I paid the .10$ a bag fee.
The lovely person who picked my order and brought it out was respectful, friendly, and kind. I appreciated their positive attitude and smile, as it was a frigid day.
With the out of the way parking, making winter grocery pick ups difficult, and the extra costs associated with the store, I’m not sure I’d use the service again.
Quick, friendly, convenient
I am sufficiently happy with trying this service.
It was disappointing that delivery was only in Ontario, but thar may come with once this service grows popularity. Searching for items was a bit difficult, eventually I found everything I wanted.
I liked that I could go back and add items to the order until the evening before pickup date. I'm not sure about having to go through the while checkout procedure for every change in order; but it does state clearly only being charged one time after order is picked up.
Thank you for the opportunity to try this out!
