Books Reviews

Curling up with a good book is a favourite year-round pursuit: in front of a blazing fire in January, in the park under a warm May sun, in a hammock lake-side in July or with coffee on the back porch overlooking brilliant fall foliage.

ChickAdvisor members love light reads like the wildly popular Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella or the more introspective romances of Emily GiffinHe's Not That Into You gives us food for thought, and Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series is a guilty little pleasure.

Paper Towns

Such a fabulous read! I couldn't put this book down and finished it in two days. I adore the storyline and the characters. Margo & Quentin were a fabulous duo! I enjoyed the book much more than the movie.
There's Cake in My Future by Kim Gruenenfelder-Smith

1 review

This is a quick and easy read based around a bridal shower "cake-pull" where each attendee plucks a silver charm from the cake depicting their fortune for the future. Super interesting story line with three main characters all with very relatable situations!
Creoly 'Spell Bound' Embossed Leather Journal (Diary, Notebook)

1 review

This is a pretty cool blank journal/diary that could also easily be used as a prop book or a book of shadows due to the occult looking theme. The only thing I'm not a huge fan of with this book (and this is my personal taste) is that the interior of the book doesn't have a cover...
The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown

I thoroughly enjoyed this book from start to finish, I went in with an open mind, and didn't let any of the critic's positive or negative reviews impact me and I know that played a part in me loving it. I loved the complexity of the story, the reality and the fiction, the...
In a dark, dark wood

1 review

A good book for this genre (mystery, thriller) starts out a little slow for me but once you get into it your attention is captured and it isn't as predictable as other books.
Her Dark Curiosity (#2) by Megan Shepherd

1 review

I enjoyed this book much more than I did the first one in the series; even if I didn't have the first book to compare it to, it still holds up well on its own. I was interested the entire way through and the writing was great. Many things I had a problem with in the first book...
Shoe Dog: A Memoir by the Creator of Nike

1 review

When I came across this book, I was genuinely surprised. Nike shoes are one of those things that have just always been around for as long as I can remember. I had never even wondered about who the founder of Nike was, or how they had come to be so universally popular. To be...
Humble and Kind by Tim McGraw

1 review

Not sure where to review books, as I normally do not, nut I thought I'd share this beautiful book, as it is a great message, a beautifully illustrated book. What a wonderful gift it would make for a grad. It is based on the bestselling song by Tim McGraw, a very quick read...
The Complete Peter Rabbit Library

Our entire family read the Peter Rabbit stories all the time growing up. They were wonderful little adventures about Peter Rabbit-- I think I even had a Peter Rabbit bowl and cup too!
Linwood Barclay - Far From True

1 review

I am a big fan of Linwood Barclay as he books just keep you on the edge of your seat. The twists and turns keep you guessing. I don't know how many times I thought I had this one figured out only to have my idea crushed. BUT I still do not know how this story pans out. Turns...
Tuck Everlasting - Natalie Babbitt

This truly is such a teen/young adult classic. A little bit of magic but also a little love...and learning and growing up. Just a good sweet read overall

Big Girl by Kelsey Miller

3 reviews

Even though my experiences weren't identical to the writer's I was still able to relate! I've learned to step back and slow down. Question myself often to make sure I'm living the best version of me possible. This is still new, so it will definitely take lots of practice but I...
The Gate Thief

1 review

This is the second book in the Mither Mages trilogy by Orson Scott Card. In this instalment, the reader finds out more about Loki, who was the first person to wield the ability to make gates and who caused a rift between worlds. It also explores the extent of Danny's powers as...
Black Dagger Brotherhood: Lover Avenged

1 review

This was my least fave book so far in the series. it was too boring and slow for me that I actually stopped reading a little less then half way through because I couldn't do it anymore and took a few months break from it. After starting to read it again it really picks up just...
Fox Chapel Creative Color Flowers

1 review

Very detailed images that will certainly clear your mind of anything you want to forget for a while. The many options of mediums to use are worth exploring, i.e. watercolors, pencils, pastels, etc.
Into The Water - Paula Hawkins

Mystery novel about a "Drowning Pool" where women seem to commit suicide, but is it really as it seems? This book changes perspectives from multiple main characters to get their unique perspectives on the issues and what is happening. It is a mystery to put together the many...
Mary Maxim Knitting Magazines

I remember as a kid seeing my mother read these. Ans even though I didn't knit at the time I still looked at them. My mother still gets these and I still looks at them.
Gabriel's Inferno series

1 review

A much cleaner novel then fifty shades of grey. It has seduction, forbidden love and redemption. A story of a professor and his student. How they met, their pasts, their struggles, finding happiness and peace.
