We have future dragon trainers in our classroom. We were fortunate to receive the How To Train Your Dragon Blazing Battles "Toothless" Cannon Blast and very excited to try out another awesome Spin Master toy. We had a 4-year-old student explore the dragon with the blasters. Since her fine motor skills are still developing, it was challenging for her little hands to insert and load the blasters into the dragon’s mouth, as the curved pieces needed to line up correctly. The dragon will be fun addition to our classroom collection of figurines and toys. For safety during play time, we will only be using the dragon without the blasters. However, during closely supervised small groups or either individual play, we can use this feature as a fun learning tool. For example, exploring how far the blasters can go. I am a teacher and also a bag-lady. I transport lots of materials on a daily basis from home to school, then back again. I use the Mastercraft Folding Tool Transport/Storage Crate in the trunk to prevent spills for coffee runs and to keep my bags upright. The crate folds flat and has handles on each of the 4 sides for easy handling. I often feel like I don't have enough hands and arms to carry my belongings, but with this folding crate, I can now carry more than ever. We are also using it to organize and carry different materials in the classroom, which folds up flat and can be stored easily. However, during closely supervised activities, we can use this feature as a fun learning tool. For example, measuring how far the water shooter can go for a fun math exploration. As part of our classroom’s focus on imaginative play and based on our students’ strong interest in superheroes, we introduced the Superman Fortress of Solitude Battle Set to our Small World Centre. It was an instant hit!
This set sparked a lot of creativity, storytelling, and collaboration among the children. They eagerly used the characters and scenery to create their own superhero adventures, building conflict-and-resolution scenarios and assigning roles to one another. It was wonderful to see students naturally engaging in problem-solving, language development, and social play through their pretend battles and heroic missions.
While the set works well on its own, we found it especially effective when paired with additional materials like blocks, loose parts, and other superhero figures. This helped extend the play and gave students more freedom to build their own fortresses or add new story elements.
The quality of the pieces has held up well to regular classroom use, and the familiar Superman theme really captured the children’s attention. It’s a great addition to any early learning space that values imaginative play, themed storytelling, and child-led exploration.
Highly recommended for classrooms with superhero fans!
