Say It Aint Soda is a super bubly and refreshing drink with a beautiful citrus aroma. The real ingredients like calamansi juice, blood orange, and a hint of star anise makes this fizzy drink a celebration in itself. the fizz at the first sip felt like a tickle on the tongue. Undoubtedly, the citrus notes were felt like playing together in the background but being honest, the flavor felt a little off. The flavor was unusual, not bad but not sweet or bold too. Of course, it was refreshing but unable to satisfy my taste buds. The star ainse at the end was giving the warm and interesting flavor but I felt it needed a little extra kick to make it really exciting. Then I grabbed some orange juice. I did a simple citrus with citrus pairing. Then I took a sip and felt like my taste buds really perked up. It tasted amazing. I must say, a light fizz with a tangy flavor came to life! A gentle sweetness was perfectly complementing the light soda bubbles. The mix provided a more balanced and refreshing taste with a little spice at the end. the flavors started to come alive. I felt like the subtle tang of calamansi juice was balanced with a comforting taste of orange. the strange, slightly odd taste that I noticed at the beginning was replaced now by something far more satisfying.
Then, I savored each sip. the thought came to my mind that the soda itself has the character but it just needed a little friend to bring out the best in it. The citrus aroma was giving the refreshing and perfect taste at every sip. I think Say It Ain’t Soda would be a great mix for a variety of mocktails and cocktails.
Overall, it's a unique drink that might not suit everyone immediately but with a little experimentation, it becomes something truly enjoyable. Pairing it with simple juice, mocktails or even a splash of alcohol will enhance its taste and bring its ingredient more to the taste. Personally, I’d enjoy it more as a mixer than drinking it plain.
