This mascara is popular because it is affordable and it works. Plus...as someone who reacts to most makeup lines, this is one mascara that has never caused a reaction. It also offers a brown shade, often so hard to find (I am blonde, don't like how harsh black looks for daytime).
I agree some brushes may be a little too small, but the product still goes on well and does not easily smudge.    -
