Back in June I joined Exteme Fitness located on the Danforth. Unfortunately I felt pressured into joining the Personal Training sessions. They are aggressive sales people and I was feeling so vulnerable about how "big" I was, I felt they preyed upon my lack of self-esteem. I had just gotten the go-ahead to resume exercise from my doctor after having uterine cancer so my sense of self was very low. That afternoon I went home with a heavy heart, telling myself that having 75 sessions for $75/session, amounting to close to $6000, was outrageous of them to sign me up to and absolutely absurd for me to have fallen for.
The next day I called the Manager in charge of Personal Training registration to ask to amend my contract. I did this for several days afterward, leaving voicemails to his personal voicemail box and I physically visited Danforth location, taking time out of my schedule, to which I continued to be told that he was not at the club those days of my visit. I continued leaving voicemail messages and I Never received any calls back.
I was never made aware that there was this "10-day" cooling off period, for which I could amend or cancel these sessions. By this Manager (Chris McLeod) not calling me back or addressing my issues with me, he allowed the 10-day cooling off period to lapse thereby forcing me into a contract that I did not want.
So, now I am dealing with another Manager who is forcing me to pay for these sessions and no one is taking responsibility for not getting back to me during the original 10-days.
This is NOT the first time I have joined a gym. I was a member with the Adelaide Club for over 10 years and had personal trainers there and I was a member of the Fitness Institute and received personal training there too. I NEVER had a problem with either of these clubs and if I needed to amend a part of the contract, all the staff were very open and amenable to my wishes. However, it appears that Extreme Fitness doesn't know the first thing about Customer Service.
My advice to anyone - pay in cash (like the one gal said above) and don't feel pressured with their aggressive sales tactics. This 10-day cooling off period is a joke and is only useful if you really sit there and read the teeny tiny fine print because clearly it is to these folks advantage that you don't read it and they certainly don't make you aware of it.
I may have to take them to Small Claims Court if this is not resolved as I do not see why I should have to pay for something that I didn't want and I have done everything in my power, that I knew of at that time that was available to me, to amend, however....it's been a hard lesson but I won't be fooled like this again!
