DIY Easy Apple Cider Recipe

Posted by Alexandra C. | Wednesday November 9, 20119 comments

I made this apple cider the other day and it perfectly fit the weather and time of year. It was the exact right drink I needed on a Sunday afternoon, curled up with a friend on the couch after a long day! Not only is this recipe great for one or two, but a large batch for your next Holiday get together is sure to please all. A bonus is that the spices make your house smell absolutely heavenly!

Here's what you'll need:

- Apx. 4-5 cups of apple juice (preferably unsweetened, can or frozen)

- 1 tsp of pumpkin pie spices (if you can't find this spice, make your own combining about 2/3 tsp of cinnamon, about 1/3 tsp equal parts of nutmeg, ginger ground cloves and all spice)

- 1 apple, thinly sliced

- 2 cinnamon sticks

- 3 shots of spiced rum (lessen or add depending on your taste), I'm using Appleton Estate Jamaican Reserve Rum thanks to our friends at Appleton Estate

Makes about 3 servings.

Directions:

Pour apple juice into a sauce pan, and heat on med-high heat.
Tip! It isn't necessary to bring this to a boil, as long at the mixture is hot, it will do!

Add spices, apple slices and cinnamon stick. Mix together.

Stir often to allow spices to mix into apple juice.

Add shots of rum. Continue to stir until steaming.

When mixture is hot, using a ladle, scoop into mug. You can eat the apple slices, leave in your mug or scoop those out.

If you wish, garnish your mug with an apple slice or cinnamon stick!

Do you have a favourite holiday-time drink?

I absolutely love apple cider. My favourite is adding a shot of Fireball, with whipped cream on top. It tastes like you're drinking a warm piece of apple crumble.. Delicious! Delicious!

@takoda My fave after dinner holiday-ish drink (besides some apple cider) is a little Bailey's or another Irish cream liqueur with milk- hits the spot!

This sounds really good, thanks Alex
I think I'll give it a try tonight. I don't have a favourite holiday drink pre
say, but I do like a little Bailey’s.
