Fashion Week Pose-Off

1716 views    14 comments

The crowd at Toronto Fashion Week really took it up a notch this year. The street style was quite impressive. Especially the men who wore stilettos, fur and sweet handbags.

There were definitely some interesting characters at Fashion Week like usual!

As far as Ivana the fur stole goes, I do think it's comical that he has named a part of his outfit - regardless of what it is. Makes me want to get a peak inside the rest of his closet!

Becky, Bren581 and Not Yvonna, thanks so much for sticking up for us :) XOXO!!

Priya, though I completely respect what you're saying, I can't re-cut the videos or not cover designers who use fur. That would block us from most of the world's best designers. However, I think what you are defending is a solid cause and kudos to you.

I cover fashion, beauty and interesting people. I hope you will continue to enjoy the site.

Kath_ryn, I agree 'Mr. Hot Stilettos' totally rocked it. The men seriously out-dressed the women this time. Usually it's pretty event but this time the boys gave us some intense competition. I really admire that.

Hottomali, It's Fashion Week, Baby! It gets better every time ;)

Cheers!

Back to what this was supposed to be about, the street style at fashion week... I really liked the cut up t-shirt and the dark indigo jeans. I think the stilettos on guys are really intense, too intense for me, but I can see why some people would like it. I also like the idea of mixing vintage with contemporary!

PS maybe I sound militant but when I came across a video on the fur industry, the images gave me nightmares for weeks. Perhaps you should watch one before calling me extreme.

Thanks for your post Ali, I really appreciate your response.

I'm not at all suggesting CA not cover fashion week. We all love CA because it does cover these types of events. But I don't think it would have hurt your clip at all to delete the clips of those two divas talking about their fur.

I think all reporting or covering of events is inherently political, because you have a platform including these clips sends a message.

I'd like to request that CA does not cover designers who use fur, there are plenty of cruelty-free designers out there.

And for the record, I stopped buying leather and with all the Mat N Nat and faux leather products out there, I haven't missed it at all!

Thanks for listening.

Priya, Girl you went ALL OUT! Don't you think you're being a bit extreme? I agree that fur is a shame of a waste of life but like Ali said I still wear leather shoes because "pleather" is uncomfortable. Unless you are an eco warrior and don't have any animal products in your house whatsoever you are being hypocritical.

This video is a riot is all I can say. TTL Dude kills me!!

I should hope most "fur" pieces nowadays are faux fur... if not ivana is a sad loss..what a beautiful animal, what a waste of life .. :(

That said, I don't think Ali can control what people wear when coming out of their houses (if she did, and she saw how i normally dressed, i'd probably be under house arrest lol ;) ) ChickAdvisor is all about the latest and greatest product, and the fashion industry is a huge part in the decision of what that is! It'd be a great miss and not just a little bit odd if CA didn't cover fashion week. Covering something means covering it impartially. Showing us (those who couldn't attend) what went on there and what we missed. What they cover doesn't necessarily have to reflect what CA or its members personally feel. I didn't see anywhere on the video where CA was "promoting fur or designers that use fur", they were simply showing us some of what went on in Fashion Week.

ChickAdvisor is about makeup, fashion, product, services, reviews, girl talk, etc. It's not a platform to preach... if anything it can be used as a platform to educate and show the members other options (which in my opinion works better in getting the message across than preaching or being harsh). I've been a member for a few years now and from what I can see, CA does it's part in promoting a more "green" way of thinking, eco-friendly cleaning products, organic natural home remedies, etc.

Sorry for the long post, but lastly I don't think the people who wear fur are really mocking the killing and skinning of animals for frivolous purposes. I think they just don't think that far ahead to analyze and realize that a life was lost so they can have an ivana around their neck.
