Before and After Makeup Transformation

Posted by Alexandra C. | Friday June 8, 201228 comments

A little while a go, I posted a forum asking chicks what they thought of the 'before and after' picture trend, because lately, I can't get enough of them! Seriously, my love for them is getting a bit out of hand, I will be featured on My Strange Addiction any time now.

If you haven't really seen or heard about this trend, here's the down low: basically girls post pictures of themselves with no makeup on at all and then, with all their makeup on. It doesn't sound like much but when you actually see the differences on some ladies, it's pretty striking. This is especially popular in Asia, where they have television shows centred around it.

Presenting myself on the Internet with no makeup on whatsoever, isn't something I like to make a habit of. I, like anyone, have my insecurities and flaws that I'm not too keen to show off. I spoke about my specific skin type in my Staff Skincare article and I mentioned that I have acne prone skin. I would consider my acne to be the thing I am most self conscious about.

I am a self professed concealer junkie and almost never go out without it on. But, I love you chicks and you ladies are always so flattering when I do post pictures so I thought I would dare to bare all my makeup for you!

So, there it is! On the left, is myself with no makeup on. On the right, I am wearing my everyday makeup look. This is typical of what I would wear everyday to work or on the weekends. Here's what I use:

Face
Make Up For Ever HD High Definition Primer
La Neige Snow BB Cream
Garnier Skin Renew Tinted Anti Dark Circle Roller
Make Up For Ever HD High Definition Foundation
Hard Candy Glamoflauge Concealer - p.s. you guys, this is my absolute favourite concealer and it is dirt cheap, definitely a recommended product!
Revlon PhotoReady Concealer
Nars Blush in Torrid
Benefit Watt's Up Highlighter, I used this one in a highlighting tutorial a while back and since then it's been a go to, check out the tutorial here
Hissyfit Saving Face Buffing Powder

Eyes
Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion
Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 hr Eyeshadow in Bad to the Bronze
Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Free Love and Sin
Elizabeth Arden Smoky Eyes Powder Pencil in Smoky Black which I just used for my Snow White inspired makeup look, click here for the tutorial
Maybelline Illegal Length Fiber Extension Mascara

Lips
Benefit Ultra Plush Lip Gloss in Coralista, coincidentally you can also win the same lip gloss this week

I need to admit that after I wrote this list down, I realized exactly how much I use on my face and I'm starting to wonder if it's worth it. Let me know what your thoughts on my before and after! Can you tell a major difference or just small details here and there? Would you ever do something like this?

Alex, you look great with or without makeup. You have the perfect skin, I'm jealous. I myself also prefer more natural looks since I can't really afford to put on bold colours for work and school. This is such a great look - the perfect amount of makeup.

You look gorgeous " Au naturel" Alex. Like others said i'm pretty sure you can skip on a couple of items.
With the BB Cream i use now i don't even put primer and foundation. The BB cream does the job. y Especially for everyday makeup.

<Are you using 2 concealers???

Will definitely try the Hard Candy GLamoflage now. thanks for the tip!

Girl, your before pic is pretty darn amazing! I just had passport pictures done, and while you are supposed to look like an ax murderer when you get them taken, I was also not wearing makeup. I have some sun damage (yellowing around the mouth and a few sun spots on my forehead), and after that pic, I seriously doubt I'd ever be brave enough to openly share my "before" pic. I don't have a long list of prods that I use on a daily basis. It basically boils down to tinted moisturizer, Benefit Erase Paste, mascara and tinted lip gloss. Special occasions are of course a different story :)

Can I just say that you all have literally made my YEAR with all your comments?! You guys are great seriously and I think the camera was being quite generous here, I feel like a few spots were skipped over!

Also, I totally agree, I didn't realised until I wrote it all down how much makeup I use. I do usually take it off when I get home if I won't be going out again and on weekends I am much more lax with it if I am not leaving the house. I actually have started skipping my foundation too and using a bb cream in its place. So far, so good!

You look great Alex! I think your first shot with your makeup free face doesn't have much difference to your after shot. Even though you may feel your makeup list is long, you look very fresh and natural and not caked on and over done.

You look gorgeous in both photos!
It's amazing how clear your skin is seeing how many products you use on a regular basis.
You're so lucky!
I have acne prone skin and had to cut down my makeup wearing to once or twice a week :(

To me that's a 'normal' amount of product to have on the face. I like your look! I have had some before and after photos taken and I almost always like the 'after'

I tend to wear a little bit more on my face color wise-and I am a big fan of bright lips but this looks great. The look you are wearing would be my weekend type of thing!

You gals have such great skin! If you saw my 'before' you would shriek like you just saw a monster :P

You are very brave to do this. I am like you, my skin is my biggest insecurity and I never go outside without my full make up on. Good job on doing this.

you look beautiful with and without makeup. It is a lot of products though. Maybe try using one less every day and see how great you can look with using the least amount of products!
