The 23 Year Old Bearded Lady Who Beat the Bullies

A 23 year old woman in the UK has grown a beard and quite frankly, she loves it. Before handing her a waxing strip, let's get some of the facts straight: Harnaam Kaur was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) which causes excessive hair growth. After fighting off her hair growth since the age of 11, she finally put down the razor and was baptized into the Sikh religion which forbids the cutting of hair. And she's never been happier.

Though being bullied and taunted, Harnaam has learned to love and accept herself. “I would never ever go back now and remove my facial hair because it’s the way God made me and I’m happy with the way I am. I feel more feminine, more sexy and I think I look it too. I’ve learned to love myself for who I am nothing can shake me now.” Harnaam told the UK Mirror

Being happy in your own skin is difficult for anyone and especially when you have PCOS. I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 18 and went through with laser treatments. I know first hand how something like this affects your life and how challenging it can be to reclaim your confidence. PCOS is the leading cause in female infertility and hormone problems but it can be controlled by regularly exercising, eating healthy and by taking birth control.

As bizarre as growing a beard may sound, I think it's really cool that she is accepting herself and working her bearded look. On the bright side she has a lot more money for clothes now, since hair removal can cost a fortune! She's even received some online marriage proposals, which is more than I've gotten, so lady is working it! Harnaam is showing all of us ladies that we should be confident in our own skin and work with what we were given. I probably won't be growing a beard anytime soon, but I definitely commend her for going against the grain (no shaving pun intended) and doing whatever makes her happy.

How does this story make you feel? What do you think of beating the bullies and doing what makes you happy?

Her confidence definitely shines through. Good for her for taking a stand and being who she was meant to be, without a care in the world. Gotta respect one who respects themselves this much

It makes me so happy to see people embrace themselves exactly as they are. I wish more people could do the same (including myself at times!) xo

I am happy for her as long as she feels beautiful and loves herself that is all that matters!

She is beautiful, inside and out. I pray she continues to be strong and stand for her own right to have the hair.
