Untouched Aerie Ad Campaign Photos Defy Model Standards

Let’s get serious for a minute. We all have those days when smallest imperfections come back to nag us, like that annoying ex boyfriend who won’t get the hint. It’s been just over a month ago since the Victoria’s Secret fashion show aired and I still cannot stop comparing myself to the perfect bodies of Miranda Kerr and Alessandra Ambrosio.

Underwear brand Aerie is hoping to put a new face to the body image of women. This week the popular and super comfy women’s brand decided to follow the footsteps of Dove’s Beauty campaign and launch the #aeriereal ad campaign. These ads are being used for their Spring 2014 line and include women that have been untouched or photoshopped. And might I add, they all look flawless and beautiful.

Check out the aerie Real campaign compared with Victoria's Secret Body ads below.

Even though the women in the ads are still models, I feel a lot better seeing that they have beauty marks, tattoos and folds still intact.

It's also important to note that these women are all wearing make up and are trained models. These aren't #belfies or your saturday night selfies

With a demographic of high school and college students buying their brand, this ad could play a huge role in inspiring young women to be loving and accepting of their bodies. Although one ad campaign won’t change the world, it can easily make me put away the spanx for a day!

What do you think of beauty ad campaigns? Do real beauty ad campaigns make you want to purchase their product? Does it make you feel more accepting of your own body and beauty?

The campaign also features a bra guide on the website with images of untouched women modeling the bra size and products! Check it out here.

I just did a project on how unattainable the image of 'ideal beauty' the media portrays is. It has a huge impact on society, especially teenagers. This is a huge step in the right direction, I am impressed!

This is so great to see. I love that there is a trend towards showcasing real women in advertising, hopefully we'll see more companies start to do this and possibly for men as well. I definitely like the Aerie ads more than the VS ads.

It is a great move for companies to start this trend again.
My mom said back in the day, as in the 70s and 80s, models were just regular girls found in malls and fast food restaurants with their parents. They looked like girls-next-door types, and were attainable. They were unapproachable, they weren't untouchable. They were normal, pretty girls, with flaws that made them perfectly, imperfect.

Its about time that girls have real role-models to look up to.

Its a good idea, and we all know models sell products not regular joes, but where are these so-called "real" models coming from? If they are all trained models where else can they be seen? More companies should put the Twiggy-era in the past where it belongs, and embrace the fact that HIPS and TITS and BADONKADONK ASSES are HOT. Not to mention the more to grab in bed the better

I love this! I've always been a fan of Dove's ads because they are so real. It's about time companies start being pro-active and embody corporate social responsibility, especially when your target market falls within such a sensitive and easily affected demographic (preteen-late teen). I only hope ads like this will help girls/almost women understand what true beauty is.
