5 Stylish TV Closets We'd Love to Raid

Thursday November 1, 2012 by Alexandra C.

If you're like me, every time you settle into your fave TV show, you immediately start shopping. TV characters have the best closets, don't they? Because I wanted to even the score a little bit, I did a wardrobe styling and came up with a few options for 5 of my favourite stylish shows so you too can steal a celeb's style!

One of my favourite new shows this year has been The Mindy Project with Mindy Kaling of The Office (Kelly Kapoor was one of my favourite characters). Mindy has a cute but professional look with a touch of girliness that I absolutely adore.

In the first episode she wore this brocade and sequin number in a teal colour that looked great with her skintone and had a flattering cut for a curvier figure.

Looking for something similar?

Modcloth More Than Vine Dress (US$87.99)

H&M Dress (UK$39.99)

Modcloth Gilding a Mystery Dress (US$127.99)

How I Met Your Mother is still going hilariously strong, now on it's 8th season. Robin and Lily both tend to dress on the casual side with Robin looking a little sleeker for her job. Nevertheless, they always look put together.

Robin favours printed or detailed blouses with tailored trousers, skinny jeans and a blazer.

Looking to inject some of this into your own closet?

BR Monogram slim crop (C$124.00)

Joe Fresh Houndstooth Silk Shirt (C$49.00)

T.Babaton Freddie Blazer (C$225.00)

Lily plays a school teacher on the show so she dresses more for comfort but she layers or adds accent pieces here and there for a more interesting look.

Try some of these items on for a Lily-esque outfit:

Gap Drop shoulder sweater (C$44.95)

D&G Ruffled Silk-Blend Top (US$133.00, on sale)

Browns Couture Boot (C$450.00)

2 Broke Girls has been a fan fave since it started last year. The two main characters: Max and Caroline couldn't have more different styles which makes them excellent stylspirations for anyone.

Max is a big fan of thrifting so we see a lot of vintage looking pieces in the show. She wears leathers, plaids and darker colours to match her 'don't mess with me' vibe.

Easily channel Max with a few key pieces:

Old Navy Plaid Flannel Shirt (C$19.99, on sale)

Nasty Gal Alexa Crossbody Bag (US$48.00)

Dynamite Melton Coat (C$69.90)

Ex-rich girl Caroline goes for light, luxe fabrics and lots of bling! She's always polished and has a few statement accessories (belts and her signature pearls) that make an outfit standout.

Get Caroline-approved chic styles like these:

Zara Skinny Jacquard Pants (C$59.90)

Forever 21 Pearlescent Charm Necklace (C$10.80)

Forever 21 Sheer Boxy Top (C$21.80)

Once Upon A Time deserves some major fashion kudos for getting each character's personality exactly right in their respective outfits.

While Mary Margaret is soft and feminine, Regina is all business. Emma always wears her trademark leather jacket and boots so she can be ready to kick some butt at any given moment.

Get an almost exact replica of Mary Margaret's lace top and cardi with these:

Kimchi Blue Lace Button-Down Tank Top (US$39.00)

Reitmans 3/4 Sleeve Cardi (C$40.00)

Go for a form fitting dress with unique design elements for Regina:

Zara Dress with Faux Leather Appliques (C$79.90)

Zara Peplum Dress (C$79.90)

Be tough as nails like Emma in this:

Hibou Manises Boot (C$180.00)

H&M Jacket (C$59.95)

For those of you who don't know, Zooey Deschanel is my pretend celeb BFF and I love her (and her wardrobe) on New Girl. She's sweet, adorable and quirky and her collection of printed dresses and vintage cardis reflect that.

She wears many retro influenced dresses and shows off her cute figure with a belt. She also tends to wear a lot of stripes and florals.

Look like you raided Zooey's closet with these cute items:

Esprit Frill Cardigan Sweater (C$41.70)

Top Shop Polka Dot Flippy Dress (UK$38.00)

Top Shop
PETAL PRINT ORIGAMI DRESS (UK$
30.00, on sale)

Which of these styles would you most be likely to copy? Which fall/winter TV shows are you glued to?

Definitely love the girly-chic looks on Zooey Deschanel in New Girl. There is something so cute yet quirky about the outfits. It shows off enough flirty girly-ness and enough cute nerdy-ness!

If I had to choose one of these styles, I'd probably wear Caroline's style. I like to look girly, chic, and polished.

I love Zooey's outfits, but that is not really something I would pull off. My style is most like Max's from 2 broke girls. Also I haven't been able to watch the Mindy Project yet, but I absolutely loved her book--it was hilarious, and I loved her in The Office. I will definitely be watching when I get a tv/netflix.

I'm definitely a fan of Emma's look from OUAT and Max's style from 2BG. I'm a sucker for leather jackets and plaid flannel shirts. I've tried to dress like Zooey from time to time with a printed dress, but I wouldn't be able to do it daily.
