Look of the Day: Stella McCartney S/S 2013 Inspired Eyeliner

Tuesday October 30, 2012 by Alexandra C.

In her Spring/Summer 2013 runway show, Stella McCartney sent her models down the catwalk with a jade green eyeliner on their lower waterline and we couldn't stop staring! The look is fresh and modern yet still wearable. We're also loving jade as an alternative to the trendy mint that we saw last spring.

Having this pop of colour really draws the focus to the eyes and makes them appear larger. Plus, if the rest of your face has minimal makeup and a matte finish, it makes this look chic, understated and never over the top.

We decided to try it out for ourselves to see if it really can be an everyday look. Check it out:

Like I mentioned above, if you try this out, you definitely want to go for a neutral face with the rest of your makeup. If you want to wear eye shadow, try a taupe or champagne or you could just go for a bare lid and a swipe of mascara. A strong brow to frame and bring attention to your eyes is also key. Add some blush and a pink gloss and you're finished.

When you're lining your lower waterline, remember to try a waterproof, smudge proof eye liner and one that has good pigmentation. Here are a few products we like:

1. Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes in Turquoise 7L (C$20.00)

2. Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Flipside (C$23.00)

3. Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner in Peacock (C$26.00)

4. Hard Candy Stay in Line Precise Mechanical Eyeliner Infused with Growth Serum in Sigali (US$5.00)

5. MAC Powerpoint Eye Pencil in So There Jade (C$18.00)

6. Sephora Collection Retractable Waterproof Eyeliner in 17 Turquiose  (C$16.00)

What do you think of this look? Is it something you'd try?

Lol I'm pretty sure I had a turquoise eyeliner from high school that I finally threw out before I moved last weekend. Damn....I always save things because I think "One day I'm going to want to use this"...of course, when I finally get the courage to just purge all of my junk, I want it

This look is amazing! It also looks awesome with purple liners!

The Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner is one of my favorite and I strongly recommend it to my fellow Chicks ;)

I'm joining the concensus here. I totally agree that it depends on eye colour. I've done this look a few times in the past. I have bright blue eyes so it kind of blends in...doesn't have that in-your-face look, which I don't want. I've also tried it outlining the corners of my eyes and just do half of my lower lash line.

I like it, it's not something I'd wear for an everyday look though.

Consensus is right, eye color is everything!

Yes I agree - eye colour can be a deciding factor. It certainly pops more against dark eyes, but is overall perhaps a little more wearable for a daytime look on lighter eyes. Since I have green/gray eyes I definitely want to try this tip for myself!

I think it will look better depending on your eye color, but its not something I'd try.
