5 Quick Tips for Perfect Curls

| Wednesday December 29, 20103 comments

So you know how to wield a curling iron but that's really just the beginning.  Try these tips to take your curly coif to the next level:

Tip 1: Use a curling iron like Hot Tools Professional Marcel Curling Iron that does not lose heat as you work through your hair. Irons that lose heat easily will leave your hair extremely curly at the ends and flat everywhere else.

Tip 2: Curling your hair without using the clip will reduce chances of getting those kinks at the end. Use a heat-resistant glove if possible, and wrap your hair around the base of the iron starting from the root until the entire strand of hair is wrapped onto the barrel.

Tip 3: Leave hair on iron for at least 15 seconds, more or less depending on your hair's thickness and texture. Use a heat protectant spray like Got2b Guardian Angel Heat Protect 'N Curl Iron Spray.

Tip 4: To loosen a curl, clip the strand into the iron at the root and run the barrel down slowly.

Tip 5: Instead of using a spray or gel, try a wax like Bumble and Bumble Sumowax at the ends for a softer, more flexible hold.

Great tips Jen! My hair is really thick and wavy so if I want big luscious curls like this I'd have to straighten my hair first, otherwise it would look coarse. Some hairstylists say that once you style with a flat iron you won't be able to add curls or waves to it until you wash it (I had really bad hair on my prom thanks to a hairdresser who believed this, but that's besides the point!). It's really not true. If you use a quality curling iron and a bunch of hairspray you can get the same results as a straight-haired woman will get from Jen's tips.

I just posted a review for the Jose Eber Curling Stick that works wonders to give me big glorious curls.
