Gift Guide: For Him

| Sunday December 6, 20093 comments
Are you helpless when it comes to finding The Perfect Gift for Him?  We know - we've been in the same predicament!  So we got the creative juices flowing and came up with a few gift ideas that will have your male friends and family members eager to see what you'll come up with next:

(1) FujiFilm Finepix F70EXR, $299

Why we love it: The EXR auto mode adjusts to 6 types of scenes and the face detection feature identifies up to 10 people in the frame.  Not only will Grandma not be blurry in your family pic, the instant red-eye reduction takes that nasty red dot away and leaves only her merry twinkle.

(2) Powermat Wireless Charger, $100

Why we love it:  Your on-the-go brother will love the convenience of charging his iPod, Blackberry and Nintendo DS all in one place completely wireless. The Powermat allows you to charge three to six devices simultaneously at the same rate or faster than with their original chargers.

(3) One-Touch-Any-Media iPod Uploader, $199

Why we love it:  Easily converts any type of audio or video to iPod-friendly format, then quickly uploads to any USB flash drive or hard drive.  It's so convenient, we think it's a little like a Star Trek tricorder... and your gadget geek will actually know what that is ;)

(1) Goat Cheese and Brie Bakers, $20 each

Why we love them:  When you realize that these companion bakers make serving dishes that are just as cute as their baked cheese is tasty, you’ll be wishing you had kept them for yourself. Help him experiment with different fun compotes from your specialty store or grocer (we are excited about the Fig & Pear or Blackberry & Shallot offerings available in-store at Indigo).

(2) Bite Me Cookbook, $29

Why we love it:  Your lifestyle junkie best guy friend will dig that this cookbook features food photographs by legends like David Lachapelle as well as music recommendations to cook to. Don’t let him be intimated by the little experience he might have in the kitchen – Bite Me is for the seasoned as well as the aspiring cook.

(1) Kiehl's Winter Sport Collection, $37.50

Why we love it:  For his next backcountry snowboarding expedition, treat your brother to this travel size winter essentials kit from your trusted Kiehl’s. The Ultimate Strength Skin Salve, Non-Freeze Face Protection and Lip Balm #1 were tested on Mount Everest - sure to keep his face protected from any harsh weather conditions.

(2) Gladiator Golf Caddy, $180

Why we love it:  Dad will love that the Gladiator Golf Caddy lets him store his bag, balls and shoes in one place so he can hit the golf course with no scrambling required.  But the 2-bag capacity means Mom - or even you - can sign up to be his new golf buddy!  And isn't time together really the best gift you can give your Dad?

(3) Knit Hot Water Bottle & Sleeve, $20

Why we love it:  With flu season well upon us, the knit wrap of this rubber hot water bottle retains the heat to gently soothe aching muscles and joints. It can also be used under bed blankets simply to keep warm on chilly nights.  We are liking the hand knit version from Indigo (in-store only).

The Mercury and The Maestro Watches by Marc Ecko, from $295

Why we love them:  The Mercury Watch is The Gift for the guy who loves to be noticed. He will empower his style with the slightest accessory, and indulge in unique finds for their superior quality and originality. The athletic type prefers The Maestro Watch. He is looking for something that he can wear to the gym rather than to the club.

(1) RC Military Helicopter, $60

Why we love it
:  Is he a Kid At Heart?  Guys love their updated childhood toys, and he'll enjoy this revamped version of a classic favourite, which includes a lightweight, high-power Lithium Polymer battery and bright white LED searchlight with two flashing red and blue navigational lights.

(2) ObusForme Shiatsu Massaging Cushion with Heat, $120

Why we love it:  This heated massage cushion targets the upper back, middle back and lower back, and is perfect to unwind with on a Saturday afternoon while enjoying a good book, or to bring to the office on a Monday after a golf weekend. Look for the version that can be used in the car - simply plug into the lighter socket and he's set for the next road trip!

(3) Deluxe Beard and Moustache Trimmer with Vacuum, $50

Why we love it:  5 different length settings and a cordless option makes this trimmer a good fit for any guy.  But we especially love the built-in vacuum for sucking up the mess!  There is a Nose & Ear hair trimmer available as well, but that really more a present for respectable society in general than for him, now isn't it?

Even before seeing this gift guide, I checked out the Powermat Wireless Charger station. I didn't not purchase it, so I cannot comment on how it works, but I do know this: it is very expensive. If you can afford it, I'm sure it is a very useful system. Also, I don't think it would pay to get it to use for just one device, but to charge several different devices, you must purchase an adapter for each. A hefty investment, I think.
