Maybe you’re often in a rush, or maybe you’re just not that handy with hair – either way, it’s all too easy to pop your hair into a quick ponytail or topknot and go.

Here are 3 super simple switches you can make to your easy-peasy hairdo that will make all the difference in the world:

#1 – The Ballerina Bun, Braided

This hairstyle is deceptively simple and perfect for misbehaving tresses (ie. #badhairday fixes). Adding a little texture bumps this ‘do from sensible to sassy.

Plaiting 6 to 8 mini braids here and there before gathering hair up into a bun not only adds dimension but also stability to the style.  Claire admits she plays with braiding her hair in front of the TV in the evenings, and then coils it up into this wearable daytime style the next morning.

#2 – A Deep, Retro-inspired Side Part

A tame little ponytail takes on a whole new personality if you give your hair a deep side part and anchor it to one side.  Michelle demonstrates:

Tip: Keep a little volume in the hair above your ponytail’s base to balance the hair below.

#3 – Accessorize Your Topknot

Topknots are not only trendy, they’re practical too.  Add a little oomph to this hairstyle statement by dressing it up with a neck scarf like Alexandra:

Which tiny switch do you do to your everyday hairstyle that makes all the difference?  Give us your tip in the comments below, and someone will win a prize!

I love #1 - I'm totally excited to try it! I have really long wavy hair so I'll tuck a few little baby braids here aand there sometimes and make a really loose messy bun/knot, but I like the way the tighter ballerina bbun looks!

I like to something similar to Michelle's look. I do a side part and braid my hair. It's effortless and can look very sheek. Especially if I'm having a bad hair day or I just don't have time to do anything this is my default goto look!

I really like all of these, but I usually can only manage to do my hair
like Alexandra has her's hear, or just laying straight. My
hair is so long and thin nothing will stay in it other then a
Goodie hair tie. I have a Native Canada choker that's made of
turquoise beads
and tan colored leather. I have tied it on top of my Goodie hair tie
to
give me a bit of a different look, but that's about all I can do
with my hair, for now any way.

My tip would be to pull it into a ponytail then add some volume by combing the ponytail upwards. Instant volumization!

As I'm always pressed for time, and need a quick hairstyle, I use a detangling spray every morning to tame the hair and flyaways and then secure my hair in a bun or ponytail. For change of look, I part my hair differently everyday and also switch from low, to medium to high ponytail or bun. A pretty clip or accessory and I'm done in less than two minutes! I save the serious styling for special occasions.

My favourite thing to do on bad hair days is slightly tease my hair by the crown. This adds some volume to the look. Then loosely (this is key!) braid my hair to one side over my shoulder- wispy ends are encouraged! Feel free to jazz up where the braid starts- with a cute brett, flower etc. Some bobby pins are an easy way to secure any fly-aways or any pieces that decided not to co-operate.

A tip for the fellow curly haired gals out there- if you have side bangs this is a really nice complimentary look. When your hair is wet twirl your hair around your finger and secure it with a bobby pin or small clip. Sleep on it. In the morning it should have turned into the cutest ringlet that helps frame your face for this look.

I love all of them, the first one has added pizzaz with the braids. I usually do the second one, but I like to braid my hair off to the side, then put a pony tail in it. Its bohemian-ish looking.
