Makeup Transformation: We Try a Blue Eye

Posted by ChickAdvisor Team | Monday July 4, 201151 comments

Since so many of you Chicks were skeptical about trying the blue eye shadow trend, we gave a few of our favourite blue products in the office a test drive.

Tammy goes from bare eyes to bright with the Mary Kay Shadow and Line Duo. The blue and brown colour combination not only is Oprah's favourite, it also really makes Tammy's eyes pop.

Tasha takes her eyes from plain for day at the office to a dramatic smokey eye for night out with Lancome Denis Gagnon Collection Parisian Nights Quartet.

Alexandra is always fierce, but the turquoise Sephora Jumbo Liner 12 Hour Waterproof on her lids brings attention to her pretty brown eyes.

Jenni tried GOSH Ocean Club Extreme Art Eyeliner in Deep Sea Blue. If eyes are the window to the soul, she's framed hers well in this bright blue.

What do you like better, a bare eye or blue? Tell us in the comments below by July 11th and get entered to win a beauty prize (it'll be one of the five we're giving away this week, check out this article to see what they are).

I like the look on the models but it is not a trend that I will be following.

Definitely Tammys look is the best. It does really make her eyes look bigger. I also like to use blue around my brown eyes but find a dark indigo more my colour.

I like blue eyeshadow! It's gorgeous with your brown eyes! I should do that more often!

I like the blue on Tammy, as previously mentioned by another poster, I think it was the right blue for her skin tone and it looks fantastic on her

You are so right Rose333! If I wore a bright lipstick I would have looked like I belong to Katy Perry's TGIF video lol.

@Vitruvian - What kind of eyeshadow was it? I've been thinking about getting more metallic blues!

Oh and of course, if you're going with blue... do not do anything with your lips... no 80's pink... or red lipstick. A bold eye with a bold lip... not usually so good!

Bold lips are okay with nude eyes though. :)

You know what? I love bare as well as blue. They are both very versatile, and work on different occasions. For example, today I am wearing a summer dress that's top half is white, and bottom half is beige, with a few pieces of casual goldtone jewellery and gold sandals for a summery look. I paired a nude eye with it, because I felt a nude look worked well with the overall look, very casual. Since the top part of the dress looks almost like a t-shirt, I think it lends to the casualness.

I have a metallic blue eyeshadow that I really love though because it really makes my eyes POP. I tend to pair that when I am wearing more bold jewellery such as my blue & purple bauble necklace or my blue chandelier earrings because it matches nicely. It looks very nice when wearing all black as well, because the colour really pops out! It also works with yellow tops such as Tasha's because they are on the complete opposite end of the color spectrum and opposites can sometimes work really well together!

So it really depends on the look I'm going for. I love them both equally. One is more casual, the other is more dramatic, but both are equally pretty!

I love the blue! I avoided blue for years, and just tried it again about 6 months ago, and loved it. Used sparingly - and being careful of what blush and lipstick colours you use - I think it "wakes up" the face.
I especially love Tammy's look.
