Yay or Nay?: Pippa Middleton's Red Dress

Posted by Alexandra C. | Monday October 10, 201154 comments

Sometimes I feel like I can't go anywhere without hearing something about Pippa Middleton! She managed to outshine almost everyone simply by wearing a form fitted white dress at a certain high-profile wedding (you may vaguely remember her sister who married the prince!); this time she's making news for a risque red dress.

Pippa attended the Boodles Charity Boxing Ball last Saturday and wore a red satin dress by Temperley London. The dress has quite the plunging neckline with a halter criss cross detail on the back. The dress also has a fabulous floral decoration at the waist line. I actually really like this dress on her- it is flattering and daring but Pippa is young and so I think she should be showing off a little bit (just like Taylor Swift the other week)!

Many fashion critics have suggested that Pippa should be covering up, especially given her status in society. What do you think, is this neckline too much in general or just too much for her? Is it in appropriate or totally fitting? Classy or just trashy?

When I hear the word charity, the last thing I'm interested in seeing is cleavage. This outfit would be okay for a party with other adults, but raising money for charity doesn't mean showing off your ta-ta's. I'm not against the dress, its beautiful, and she definately has the body to pull it off, but it definately doesn't suit the event.

This is iffy for me, and here's why:

Yay: She Looks Smokin' Hot - no question. This dress fits her like a glove and in any other circumstance I think it's the perfect choice for her.

Nay: Her situation - not only is she Duchess Kate's sister, ever since the royal wedding and that stunning Sarah Burton dress, her bum has been all anyone can talk about. It has its own Facebook page for crying out loud (with more than 240,000 likes).

I think she's enjoying her moment of fame, but ultimately probably wants to be known for more than her derriere or her status as The Other Middleton Sister. When she wants to be taken seriously, it's wardrobe choices like these that will make her more sexualized.

Sure, she herself didn't marry into the royal family and it's not the 1800s. But Kate Middleton has consistently dressed well AND conservatively. Pippa could have/should have gone with a little less skin and would have looked spectacular. It will make things easier on Kate if her family presents with dignity because there won't be inappropriate remarks about them in the tabloids.

I'm going to be the oddball here and say 'nay'. This is a lovely dress, but it would look better on her if it didn't have such a drastic plunging neckline. Maybe instead of that deep plunge, the neckline could have been cut straight across baring her shoulders but hiding the cleavage crack (what is that type of dress called???) lol

Anyways she looks lovely, but perhaps not very status appropriate.

@takoda- You totally had her right! I agree, she looks awesome! Personally I'm a Pippa fan more than a Kate fan!

I say Yay
for her, she young and she has the body for a dress like this. She didn't merry
into the Royal family her sister did so why should she even care what the Queen
thinks. If she was dating Harry then that might be a different story, but she's
not so I think she looks fine and this dress looks beautiful on her. I say wear
it while you still can because time tends to do funny things to some women’s bodies
a lot sooner then we’d like. Go for it while you still can!

I think the dress looks absolutely stunning and gorgeous on her! Yes she is still young and beautiful it doesn't hurt to show off a little especially since we see such older celebrities showing off much more than they should and dressing trashy without having such attention drawn to them. She looks like she is ready for a ball and is showing just the right amount for a sexy look and yet looks classy and totally appropriate.

I don't see the problem. Since when is showing a little cleavage trashy? This isn't Victorian times where women need to be covered from the throat to the toes and wear half their weight in underwear.

I'm not going to lie - I have no clue who this lady even is, but simply from my own observations, the dress fits her (as in she's not trying to cram herself into something three sizes too small), it flatters her figure in design and color (or maybe she flatters the dress), and she just overall looks very pretty in it.
