Interpreting the Runway: Dolce and Gabana Fall 2012 Fashion Trends

Posted by Alexandra C. | Thursday August 16, 20128 comments

I am completely head over heels, in love with the Dolce and Gabana Fall 2012 collection. Like, so in love I would drain my entire bank account to own one piece of the collection. Sadly though, I have the feeling that even my life savings wouldn't cover the price of a top from the collection. Le sigh. Of course, even if I did have the funds to cover that gorgeous printed dress I've been eyeing, it would be in vain. Where's a gal supposed to wear a gothic inspired, floral printed, tulip skirt dress anyway? Am I right?

Which is why instead of just giving you the low down on the hot off the runway trends, I thought it would be helpful to let you in on how you can translate them to fit a more wearable wardrobe.

Like I previously mentioned, the Dolce and Gabana fall collection was sporting a Gothic and medieval influence. With luxe fabrics, exaggerated shapes, prints and embellishments, the collection kind of reminded me of a Grimm's fairytale.

When it comes to putting the runway into real life, go for less avant garde cuts, but keep true to the theme. Take a style lesson from the collection and when looking to build your own fall wardrobe, look for peplums, capes and tulip skirts. Go for heavier fabrics with special, detailed interests. Whether it's a cropped and fitted brocade blazer or a skirt with embellishment.

Of course, lace has been trending for the past few seasons and there's no sign of it slowing down. It's feminine but still sexy and anyone can pull it off. While D&G did major lace with lots of skin, you can try a lace sheath for an office apporpriate look. While this collection focused on black, gold and white, in the real world too much black and white can get majorly boring. Inject some colour with rich jewel tones like burgundy, plum and sapphire.

I am loving the white dress with multi color floral pattern, so pretty and elegant. There are some unique looks featured here, the colors are so rich and lush, lots of options.

I haven't even looked at the fall trends. I'm trying to hold on to summer for as long as I can!!
I do like the H&M;dress and the Bow Back Dress, but its way out of my price range. We need to do one of those deals where you show us high end dresses and then show us one that's very similar that everyone can afford, like they do after the Oscar's.
