12 Pumps For Prom You'll Wear Again

Posted by Siofan | Thursday April 28, 20118 comments

While you may never wear your grad party dress again (you would be surprised how few formal events there are in college), there's no reason the shoes you buy can't be simple enough to wear again but won't dull-down your party look. Here are twelve and how to wear them again.

Black

You'll definitely get wear out of a basic black pump. Post-party pair it with a simple black pencil skirt and pretty blouse for on internship interview or with skinny-black jeans and a sparkly blazer for going out.
1. Spring Baff Platform C$49.99
2. Steve Madden Stokker US$99.95
3. Guess Footwear Hondo US$90.00
4. Topshop Glam Plain Heeled Court Shoe US$90.00

 Blush and Nude

A beige and blush tone shoe close to your skin tone—the above are on the lighter side, but there are plenty of great deeper beige shades depending on your colouring—will make the leg look longer. These are especially great for those of you opting for a shorter dress. Come summer, these will go with just about any dress from your LBW to the bright colour-blocked frocks and separates that are everywhere.
1. Steve Madden Pinelope US$79.95 (sale)
2. Jessica Simpson Acadia US$59.99 (sale)
3. BCBGirls Ariel US$79.99
4. Zara Satin Court Shoe C$79.99

Colour

If a punch of colour is what you're looking for, pumps in candy-hues will brighten up your look. Resist the urge to match your shoes to your dress, you're not a bridesmaid. Fun, bright shoes seem less practical, but they look great with denim and with more casual pieces, so you won't have to limit their wear to special occasions.
1. Enzo Angiolini Starlite Pumps US$89.00
2. Zara Coloured Peeptoe Shoe C$89.90
3. Steve Madden Staciee US$89.95
4. Marc Fisher Joey Pump US$59.98

What shoes will you be wearing to your grad? Sweet and simple or over-the-top?

Cathy, why don't you take the afternoon off and buy a pair of red pumps? I agree that red shoes are a great statement to have in your wardrobe.

@cathy - me too! and your choices - me too!

@mamaluv, i was thinking the same thing! good point about not matching the shoes to the dress! Unless it's black... although that does look boring .. black on black on black..blah .. and have you seen the lace looking pumps out there? they look so good! but i don't know how well they'll look once worn..I think they'll look fab, but that's me :)

great post! I think you made a really important point about not matching your dress and shoes (I came thisclose to making that faux pas back in the day), so while black and nude feel like the safe and smart choices, I love the coloured pumps that you can have fun with later. With jeans or black/whites, you can have the wildest colours and not go wrong. I think the only thing I'd truly steer clear of would be patterned or floral designs - it's such a fine line between fashionable and tacky.

I sadly do not own a pair of red pumps. I feel like they are a staple in anyone's wardrobe since they never go out of fashion. My ideal red pump: the style of the Jessica Simpson (pictured in nude) but with the colour and material of the Marc Fisher's.
