5 Songs on My Workout Soundtrack

Posted by Cathy | Friday January 14, 201115 comments

When someone asks me what type of music I like, I usually say "anything that's good".  That's the only way I can sum up my taste in music.  I will blast Hilary Duff on the same day I rock out to old school LL Cool J, classic Springsteen or Rascal Flatts.

For the gym, I pick a playlist of songs with a good beat that keep me motivated to move.  Here is what's on my current workout playlist:

Strip Me by Natasha Bedingfield
This song is all about loving yourself, so it's perfect for motivation at the gym.

The Other Side by Bruno Mars ft. Cee Lo Green & B.o.B.
This one is awesome for cardio because the versus are slow and the chorus is energetic.  I use it as a guide for when to work hard and when to rest.

Walk Away by The Script ft. B.o.B.
Good song.  Not much else to say about it.

Hot Tottie by Usher ft. Jay-Z
I've always loved Usher at the gym.  His songs are fun and have a good beat to keep you moving.  This one is no exception.

Teenage Dream from Glee
Okay I get that this isn't exactly a pump-up song, but I'm in love with this version.  And hey, you can always use it during your Cool Down.

Did any of these make your list?  What do you listen to when you workout?

I just go for anything that's fast and makes me adjust the treadmill speed to the beat of the music. I don't really experience any further motivation - it's more like the metronome effect. Works for me!

It's any of those uber-fit artists! Fergie, does it to me too. I also find I listen to a lot of rap at the gym - it gets you a little anger and make you want to be a little tougher.

Haha I have no shame for liking Hilary!

I totally agree with the Usher thing. Also, 50 Cent "In Da Club" does the same mind trick - I can't help but picture 50 Cent doing those upside down crunches he does in the music video when I hear the song -- if that isn't motivation for ya, I don't know what is!

I find that listening to Usher at the gym just pushes me a little harder:
1) Because he has rock hard abs that I am jealous of
2) I think he's judging me if I'm not giving it my all

Cathy I think we might be soulmates! I can't remember anyone admitting to me that they would ever blast a Hilary Duff song (she's adorable and has been frequently added to my gym and non-gym playlists).
