Betsey Johnson flowers and tulle unofficially close Toronto Fashion Week

Prom ’91 or a Betsey Johnson fashion show at Liberty Grand on Toronto Fashion Week’s closing night?

A mix of spandex floral numbers, and tulle’d prom-esque gowns paraded the elevated runway at midnight on Thursday night as a final hoorah to this week that was fashion.

Unlike the other shows at March F/W, this showcase was in line with the season shoppers are thinking in – Spring/Summer! The collection featured floral prints, tiered ruffles, shoulders with volume and corseted silhouettes. To top off (literally) the Betsey J looks, were piled high buns with polished bases, complete with a flower and revealed stem - garden party ballerina, meets 90s punk!
Models in Betsey’s Toronto show reveal the sleek chignon style designed in collaboration with the Betsey Johnson creative team and Schwarzkopf Professional stylists.

Paul Pereira, representing Schwarzkopf Professional, was responsible for working with Betsey’s creative team to come to a decision on the hair looks for the show. “It was all about the volume, with a classic and modern twist,” explains Pereira.

Five hairstylists prepped the models for the show with identical chignons, beautiful in their own right, but understated enough to let the fashion take centre stage, as all hair in a runway show should be tasked to do.

No appearance by the usually-cartwheeling Betsey, but with guest DJs; tow-haired beauties Blondish, and model-of-the-moment Agyness Deyn (moonlighting as a DJ), there was plenty of star power on hand to compliment Betsey’s sun-shiny, totally girly styles for the season.
