Cheap Makeup Trick: Pepto Bismol Blush

Posted by Alexandra C. | Tuesday January 10, 201228 comments

In all honesty, when I first heard about Pepto Bismol being used as blush, I was a little put off. Then again, beauty guru Michelle Phan makes a mean Kitty Litter Face Mask, so could it really get any weirder than that?

Since I'll try anything once, I thought I'd do a little experimenting of my own. I've never used Pepto Bismol before (especially not on my face), so I was surprised at how the colour and the consistency was comparable to the pricier Posie Tint Lip and Cheek Stain by Benefit

I did a patch test on my arm first to test it out. Up close, the Pepto Bismol blush was surprisingly pigmented, though not as pigmented as the Posie Tint. With both of these products, a little goes a long way, definitely be wary of over using. The one complaint I have with the Pepto Bismol is that it doesn't dry uniformly and that it takes a long time to either pat or rub in and dry. I find with both these products that building on them was difficult, adding another layer would just rub the previous one away.

Considering all things, I would definitely try this trick if I had Pepto Bismol on hand and had run out of blush. Pepto Bismol has another plus to it- it can be used as acne treatment or a mask because it contains salicylic acid- the key ingredient in many cleansers and face washes.

How did the Pepto blush fare on my face?

Before- no blush

If you want to try this out for yourself, I suggest using the small cup the Pepto Bismol comes with, putting in a small amount and using your three middle fingers to pat on the product. Be sure to do this quickly and use sparingly. You may need to let dry for a while as well.

What do you think? Would you ever try this?

@beachbabe It doesn't really smell- Pepto itself is minty so it isn't that bad, it is such a small amount, you can barely smell it.

I have certainly never heard of this before! Does it smell when it's on your face?

Very interesting! Good to know if you're having stomach problems and don't have a blush handy :)

You look very cute with the pepto blush and quite honestly, pepto and posie give the same sort of glow! Now the question is, what's the staying power like? :-)

I went with the name brand of Pepto because it was on sale at the drugstore- I got a big bottle for about $7 or $8- but I think a no name brand would do just as well.

I think the main difference for me was in how well they absorbed into the skin. Pepto took a long time to dry and if you rubbed too much, it just rubbed off completely but seeing as how Posie Tint is about $36- this may be a sacrifice I am willing to make!!!

I tried a pepto mask last night too- I didn't notice any difference but I didn't leave it on for very long, I was in a rush but I will try again soon (I now have a HUGE bottle in my house haha)

I don't really see much of a difference between the two. Witch one coat
the least amount? I know Pepto can get pricy at times, so I wonder if a
no mane brand of Pepto would work too.LOL
