Cheap Makeup Trick: Pepto Bismol Blush

Posted by Alexandra C. | Tuesday January 10, 201228 comments

In all honesty, when I first heard about Pepto Bismol being used as blush, I was a little put off. Then again, beauty guru Michelle Phan makes a mean Kitty Litter Face Mask, so could it really get any weirder than that?

Since I'll try anything once, I thought I'd do a little experimenting of my own. I've never used Pepto Bismol before (especially not on my face), so I was surprised at how the colour and the consistency was comparable to the pricier Posie Tint Lip and Cheek Stain by Benefit

I did a patch test on my arm first to test it out. Up close, the Pepto Bismol blush was surprisingly pigmented, though not as pigmented as the Posie Tint. With both of these products, a little goes a long way, definitely be wary of over using. The one complaint I have with the Pepto Bismol is that it doesn't dry uniformly and that it takes a long time to either pat or rub in and dry. I find with both these products that building on them was difficult, adding another layer would just rub the previous one away.

Considering all things, I would definitely try this trick if I had Pepto Bismol on hand and had run out of blush. Pepto Bismol has another plus to it- it can be used as acne treatment or a mask because it contains salicylic acid- the key ingredient in many cleansers and face washes.

How did the Pepto blush fare on my face?

Before- no blush

If you want to try this out for yourself, I suggest using the small cup the Pepto Bismol comes with, putting in a small amount and using your three middle fingers to pat on the product. Be sure to do this quickly and use sparingly. You may need to let dry for a while as well.

What do you think? Would you ever try this?

It sounds cool, but I wouldn't do it...I can't stand the smell of pepto bismol

I'd do it.....especially if I was in a bind and needed to use something on my face. Why not!?

Yes, I have heard about the other benefits of using Pepto Bismo on the skin. Dr. Oz I think had a show that if you also spread pepto bismol over your face, it gets rid of dull skin. I am going to have to give it a try both for blush and for dull skin.

It's subtle but if I was desperate in a pinch... though I can't remember ever being 'desperate' for blush. Haha! Good job!

That's really neat! I would have never thought to use pepto! I'm not sure it would show up on too much of a darker skin tone that yours Alex!:)

@Becky I didn't have it on for very long but I think it would be pretty good- I don't know how it would fare against touching/rubbing though.

@curlysue10 You're so sweet but I will let you in on a little secret... (i.e. I am in love with Glamoflauge concealer from Hard Candy)

Hah, this is very weird, but kinda cool. I'm not gonna lie though, I don't think I would try it out. It does give you a pretty flush though.

Somewhat unrelated, HOLY Alex, you have such flawless skin I am so envious!
