D.I.Y. Decor: Create Your Own Designer Lampshade

D.I.Y Designer Lampshade

I saw this in a magazine listed as a top tip of designers. It's something I've never heard of before, but apparently painting the inside of a black lampshade shocking pink or red is not only a design statement, it creates softer mood lighting.  Since I'm such a newbie to this whole D.I.Y business, I thought this fool-proof project had my name all over it.  I got a gorgeous can of pink paint (it's Peony 2079-30) from our friends at Benjamin Moore.  In my opinion, it's the perfect shade of pink.

For this project you will need a small can of paint, a small roller, a black lampshade and some plastic wrap.

Wrap the outside of the shade with plastic to avoid any unsightly splotches.  Pour the paint into a plastic tray and using your small roller, carefully paint the interior of the shade.  It needs to be really even or you may see the flaws through the shade when the light is on.  Let it dry.

I have to say the final result is kind of cool! It's more of an artsy feel, but understated.  What do you think?

I really like this. I have very plain painted walls, I feel like this will help spice up my apartment. :)

I know I realized too late that the only 'before' shot I had was with the light off, which is the top image. Sorry, guys! Newbie DIY'er here!

Definitely a cool idea, and looks very simple to do! A before & after shot would have been fabulous.

Cool idea!

You should have done a before lamp picture to really get the idea of how much the pink interior of the shadechanges the light.

Wow is this ever cool. I love how it shows the pink on the walls around the lamp. When I fist looked at the pic's before I read it, I thought you where going to paint the out side of the lamp and didn't get it.LOL
