DIY or BIY: 'Mineral Veil' Setting Powder

When it comes to beauty, do you prefer to Do It Yourself (DIY) or Buy It Yourself (BIY)?

Personally, I'm all about money and time saving, so when I consider DIY'ing any beauty product, I look at reward vs. input. While some of my DIYs have turned out wonderfully in this respect (DIY'd nail polish with old pigments for example), I haven't been so lucky with others. When a DIY project takes me a million years and costs almost as much as the actual product, it's time to shut. it. down. Of course, there are other things to consider like: quality and ingredients (knowing what really goes into a product).

So, here's a question for you: when it comes to a setting powder, similar to Mineral Veil, do you DIY or BIY?

According to this blog, translucent powder only requires two ingredients and one of them is dirt cheap!

Here's what you need:

1. 1 1/2 Tablespoons Cornstarch
2. 1/8 Teaspoon Powder Foundation (for colour)

Mix all the ingredients together.

Or the other hand, you could just take a trip down to Sephora and pick one up!

So chicks, what's it gonna be?

Report back: I tried it, and it's perfect! I simply crushed up a little of my foundation with the back of a powder brush, and mixed it into a little cornstarch. I added a couple of drops of tea tree oil for good measure and put the whole thing into a small spice container I got at Canadian Tire. Total cost was 1.99 ha ha and it's great! Thanks for the DIY Alex!!!

@curlysue10 You only need the foundation for a bit of colour really so you don't look white as a ghost so I would try and go to a Sephora and ask for a few samples of powders!

Whoa, I love the idea of making it!!! It might cost me as much as buying it though because I don't generally like loose powder foundation so I would have to buy that. On the other hand, it would serve two purposes! Foundation in the winter and lighter mineral veil in the summer...

Hmmm... sounds easy enough to make! Still not sure whether I would try it. I've been really loving my Cover FX matte-finish setting powder lately. Maybe when I run out I'll give this a try :)
