Double Duty Make-Up Products: Essentials

Maybe you've read the article on the products I actually use out of the mess that is my cluttered makeup bag. If so, you know that I, to put it most eloquently, have gotta lotta stuff. Lately (especially after a recent shopping splurge at Sephora after a bad day) my collection has been seriously piling up. It's actually getting to be a bit of an ordeal to sort through and apply my daily makeup.

Because my stack of palettes has become the Leaning Tower of Pisa, I've been thinking that maybe it's high time I start practising minimalism. I'm trying to simplify my life by weeding out the unnecessary, focusing on only the products I use and also trying to stock up on products that do double duty. Hoping this will compact my makeup bag and create some ease when traveling. Here's my list of essential products that help you get the most bang for your buck!

Lips, Face and Cheeks: Many products can be used as both blush and lip colour. Stock up on pigmented balms for moisturzing benefits with a tint to give yourself some colour. For face and skin, try products that do 2 in 1. This saves time and space. A highlighter and blush combo palette can be used to blend and contour and fits nicely in a purse.

1. Korres Milk Proteins 3 In 1 Cleansing, Toning and Eye Make-Up Removing Emulsion (C$26.00)

2. Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment (C$26.00)

3. Stila Convertible Color (C$33.00)

4. Rosebud Salve (C$7.00)

5. L'Oreal Paris Colour Riche Balm (C$8.99)

6. Nars Foreplay Palette (C$58.00)

Face and Eyes: When you're on the hunt for a palette, stick to neutrals that you'll use most often or only purchase mono shadows. A good rule of thumb is to have a highlighter shade, an all over lid shade and a darker shade for your crease. This will get you a basic, everyday eye. A palette with eye and cheek colour or even better a product that does both eyes and cheeks is handy to have while doing your makeup. And always look for convenient packaging in makeup. If a product is difficult to use, chances are you won't use it and it will end up taking up space.

1. Stila Stay All Day Foundation & Concealer Set (C$57.00)

2. Bourjois Coup de Théâtre 2 in 1 Mascara (C$24.00)

3. Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette (C$60.00)

I haven't tried enough multi-purpose products to make an opinion.
