Hair Transformation: DIY Dip Dying and Colour Streaks

Posted by Alexandra C. | Monday November 14, 201170 comments

Dip dying is one of the hottest hair trends right now, not just with natural colours, as in an ombre style but with pinks, oranges, blues- you name it! Using bolder colours to streak your hair, underneath or in certain areas, is a good balance for an 'in your face colour'. Dying just the ends of your hair is a funky way to have some colour, but still look natural. Finally, go for faded tones in a coral or peach for something different but still on trend.

We love the idea of dip dying and streaking our hair but we aren't in love with the idea of permanent dyes or having to bleach our hair first then applying the dye (since all of our hair is so dark). So- we decided to put Kevin Murphy's new product- Color.Bug to the test! Read our reviews over here for our reactions and for more info about the product.

We tried out three shades- orange, pink and purple and we're pretty thrilled with the results.

Shiori goes for pink and purple streaks that frame her face.

Alexandra opts for fiery oranges with touches of pink for something bright and daring.

Mandy's hair almost looks like it's fading into a natural brown with her touches of pink and orange.

I love this for a night out- a concert, a party etc. when it is worth it to make the extra effort but you don't want something long lasting.

I looooove the look of this, but I haaaate knowing it washes out afterwards. I'd rather something that lasts a little longer, like Manic Panic... I don't want to be doing my hair every day!

Even still. This looks fantastic. I'd use it for a one time deal.

I love this! All of you look awesome, but I gotta say I'm especially loving Alexandria's fiery curls. I really want to go Ombre on my hair. Funny since I first didn't like Ombre, but there you have it.

Sorry ladies, but I guess I'm just to old for this style. I don't care for pink, blue, orange or even green hair on anyone. Since it does wash out it would be fun for some party's, or concerts, but I wouldn't do it to my hair. Your making me feel older.LOL

I will say I like the concept of them but it was very messy in terms of application. Much easier when someone else does it thats for sure. If it didn't transfer off as easily I'd wear this for fun or out somewhere for kicks.

I'm still on the fence about this trend. I love it when the color is feathered so it's like your natural color just fades into the "unnatural" color. Then I feel meh about the trend when I see it done without much gradient so like a line across the ends of the hair that are a different color.
Interesting to know that this product can wash out, no commitment to a particular color and no damaging bleach to the ends of your hair. You girls did a great job though and how nudged me more in the love it camp.

@amyknows this particular product is a wash n' wear- it washes out when you shampoo your hair at the end of the day!

I actually like this idea. It's a more subtle way of switching up your hair! & instead of having to wait ages for it to fade out/grow out, its just the ends; a quick trim will get the majority of it out when you're tired of the change!
