Hair Transformation: DIY Dip Dying and Colour Streaks

Posted by Alexandra C. | Monday November 14, 201170 comments

Dip dying is one of the hottest hair trends right now, not just with natural colours, as in an ombre style but with pinks, oranges, blues- you name it! Using bolder colours to streak your hair, underneath or in certain areas, is a good balance for an 'in your face colour'. Dying just the ends of your hair is a funky way to have some colour, but still look natural. Finally, go for faded tones in a coral or peach for something different but still on trend.

We love the idea of dip dying and streaking our hair but we aren't in love with the idea of permanent dyes or having to bleach our hair first then applying the dye (since all of our hair is so dark). So- we decided to put Kevin Murphy's new product- Color.Bug to the test! Read our reviews over here for our reactions and for more info about the product.

We tried out three shades- orange, pink and purple and we're pretty thrilled with the results.

Shiori goes for pink and purple streaks that frame her face.

Alexandra opts for fiery oranges with touches of pink for something bright and daring.

Mandy's hair almost looks like it's fading into a natural brown with her touches of pink and orange.

They look awesome! I love the reds/purples, but the orange I'm not too sure about. It almost looks like it was a hot hot pink that is fading. My fav is Mandy's!

Wow, they turned out great! I'm not sure those types of streaks would suit me though. As awesome as they turned out, I'd be too chicken to try it on my own hair all by myself!

Love the new fall looks ladies. Shiori and Alexandra's styles really make their styles pop. Mandy's hair almost looks brown/red instead of the orange/pink. I would have opted for a more firery red to bring out the dark hair. All three styles look really great on you ladies!!

I think this look is good for younger people who are in school or have an occupation that allows this type of expression- not for the professional business woman. It's pretty cute and can be subtle or more showy depending on how much hair or dye you use. Cute! =)

Omg you have no idea how much I want to dip dye my hair! These look great, especially Mandys, but I would be willing to bleach my hair so the color can come off more vibrant. I'm still deciding though, because sometimes purple and red come off a bit too emo-ish? Maybe turquoise...

In highschool I wanted to try something similar to Mandy's but with electric blue! I think I want to again but I don't want electric blue anymore, I'm leaning towards a rusty red!

Love it! Especially Mandy's since her dark hair contrasts with the coloured tips so well.
