Hair Trend: Ombre Colour

Posted by Claire | Thursday October 14, 201010 comments
A huge trend in hair this year is Ombre colour - tinting hair lengths lighter than the roots.  This beach-bum look was popular through the spring and summer, but we wondered if it had enough staying power for Fall.  It would seem the answer is Yes.

Honey blondes Vanessa Paradis, Whitney Port, and Drew Barrymore look surprisingly natural.

On brunettes like Rachel Bilson and Sarah Jessica Parker, the look can be even more dramatic.

Alexa Chung, often cited as an early trendsetter of the look, proves that lock length is no limitation.  Kristen Stewart had a wilder take that, while likely to look atrocious on most other women, suits her well.

A subtler interpretation is stunning on Jessica Biel and our friend Kate - remember her?

Have you tried an ombre colour? What do you think of this trend?

I would totally let my roots grow out if I didn't have grays to cover at the same time :P

I really like the honey blondes! It's funny--for all my life it's seemed like a woman would rather die than have dark roots. A cool new trend!

Haha, my hair is pretty much like this right now! All I had to do is grow my dyed hair out! Free fashion is the best :)

My vote goes to the only non-celeb here, Kate! It looks gorgeous and natural.

I agree with Ali, it's definitely not a good look if your roots are really dark and the ends too light like with Rachel Bilson. Out of all these pictures, Kate's hair is the best looking one.

I like it on Kristen Stewart because it looks funky. Otherwise, the difference has to be subtle.

I like this best when it looks natural and there isn't a harsh difference between the roots and the rest of the hair. The ones at the very top and very bottom look great but I think the ones in the middle are far less flattering.
