Old Tee Makeovers Part 1: The DIY Workout Top

If you're like me, you probably have a huge collection of souvenir tees from various events. That charity run you did last August (yup, you've got that tee) or that time you volunteered for the food bank (that one is somewhere in your closet too). The tees just seem to accumulate until you don't have any drawer space left.

Well, why not re-purpose those old t-shirts and revamp them into something new and wearable? In this first DIY project, we'll be taking an old, clutter-causing tee and turning it into an easy throw-on work out tank (also great for your post work out activities too). All you need for this DIY is an old tee (preferably oversized) and a pair of scissors.

The How- To:

1. First, cut off the bottom hem. It should be cut so that it is one long strand (not a loop). Keep to the side, you'll be needing this for later.

2. Next, cut off your sleeves.

3. and 4. Cut your neckline hem. This t-shirt was already a v-neck so I just cut off the ribbed hem portion. If your tee is a crewneck, you'll need to cut the hem off first then cut a V-neck neckline.

5. and 6. Cut the back portion into a V-neck as well, to match the front. I traced an outline first, then cut. If you have a crew neck tee, you can cut the front and the back into a V-neck together.

7. Take the bottom hem strand that you left to the side. String it through the back.

8. and 9. Bringing the back straps together, start to wrap the strand around. This creates a racer back tank.

10. Tie it off!

Here's how the tee looks. Pretty cool, eh? It only takes a few minutes too!

The Final Look

There you are! This project is a beginner craft so don't worry about any technical stuff. When you're finished you have some sweet new workout apparel.

What do you think of this DIY chicks? Is this something you'd try?
