Quickie DIY: Sequined Hair Clip

Posted by Alexandra C. | Thursday November 8, 201210 comments

Adding a hair clip is one of the easiest ways to take a basic hair style and effortlessly dress it up. It works on different hair lengths, hair styles, colours and looks gorgeous on anyone. A little glitter or sparkle is the perfect way to take your hair from day to night or to add a little somethin' somethin' to your entire outfit.

These celebs know what I'm talking about:

With the impending holiday season and with winter fast approaching, I thought we needed to add a little glitz to our life with an easy DIY hair accessory! Not only will you be able to bust this classy thing out at a party, but you'll can also jazz up an outfit for work or even gift it if you're feeling generous.

This DIY is simple and requires only a few items:

Hairclips: Be sure to use ones that are wide enough and that hold your hair up well. While you can use a thicker, solid clip, it will be easier to use one with a hole in it. Try:

1. Goody Basic Autoclasp Barrette (US$3.99)

2. Goody Contour Hair Clips (US$3.49)

4. Goody Contours Large Barrettes (US$3.99)

3. Thread and Needle

5. Sequin Trim and Felt: Try searching on Ebay for trims.

Tip: You might find it useful to use a hot glue gun too!

The How-To:

Step 1: Sew the felt to the sequin trim. If you're sewing impaired, you can also hot glue gun it together.

Step 2: Sew the felt and sequin trim to the barrette, lopping over the hole. To make sure it stays put, you can also hot glue gun the fabric on first.

Final Product

How great and easy is that?

Do you have any easy hair tips for holiday styling?

How cool is that, you can go to Joannes and check out the clearance rack and buy the clips at Bed & Bath with a Harmon or BBB coupon.

I personally like hide hair clips, but this might actually match really well with a sparkly outfit for New Years celebrations! I'm going to keep it in mind.

Ooo I like this a lot! My bangs have been annoying me lately when they get in my face, so I find that I'm pinning them back a lot more often. This would definitely help dress my hair up, while staying practical with it off my face!
