The Coloured Wedding Dress: Spring 2013

Amber Tamblyn, one of my favourite actresses from the (so very good, don't judge me) Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants was recently married to comedian David Cross. I kind of love this couple, they're cute 'n quirky and oh-so adorable. One of the reasons I love them so much is because of Ms. Tamblyn's choice of wedding dress. Instead of going with the same ol' white dress, she threw everyone for a loop and walked down the aisle in a sunny, yellow gown. Amber isn't alone in her decision to incorporate colour into her big day. Reese Witherspoon wore a rose dress and trend maker Gwen Stefani donned a white and hot pink ombre gown.

While the coloured wedding dress may not be for everyone, you have to admit it's unique and makes a statement. A coloured gown can be a great alternative for the non-traditional bride, for a renewal or for a more casual and laid back setting.

For all the brides-to-be this spring, I'm inviting you to take a look at some of these coloured gowns. Here are ten picks that we thought were a great start to thinking outside the box.

Would you ever walk down the aisle in something a little different? Perhaps you've thought of adding a bit of colour as an accent on your dress?

I usually don't really care to follow tradition, but I really prefer off-white or ivory dresses. Though I have seen some that I like that are very light-blue or pink that is close to white. Out of these dresses, I like the Carolina Herrera dress. Most of the others remind me of prom dresses or something you'd wear to the oscars. I think color should be reserved for the bridesmaids or an accent color.

I love going against the grain and doing a wedding dress with some colour. Vera Wang always does such gorgeous gowns.

Colour as an accent I would go for, but a full colour gown probably not. I suppose if it was in a wedding gown cut (like the Oscar de la Renta, for example) it works, but a slim cut dress looks like bridesmaid fashion. Not in a bad way! Just in an unexpected way.

If I was getting married again (which I'm not - I'm happy with my mister) I'd probably go with a less formal white dress. I wouldn't go full Cinderella on round 2, but if I were a 1st time bride I might consider a pale colour like the Carolina Herrera.

I love the Carolina Herrera dress. I could see myself walking the line it this one, but not in a bright colored dress. Unless it was my second trip down the aisle. I guess I'm still a bit old fashioned.
