Try It Tuesday: Foundation Stick

Posted by Alexandra C. | Tuesday July 23, 201314 comments

Today I want to talk about an unsung beauty hero: stick foundation.

When's the last time you used one of these? Or maybe you've never even crossed paths with any. It wouldn't be unlikely. Foundation sticks haven't been the popular foundation choice for a while, but I think they deserve some time in the spotlight.

Foundation sticks are easily blendable, simple to apply and high coverage. The foundation is a thicker cream which makes it easier to head on over to clown academy when applying. However, with the right blending brush (or natural's tool like your hands), stick foundations are super fast and handy to have around. Occasionally I don't get the even coverage I want with a liquid foundation, but a cream foundation is less streaky and still moisturizing. During the summer months, a thicker foundation can be a bit stuffy on your skin, so this is definitely one to keep on your shopping list for fall.

Keep in mind that these make excellent travel buddies! They're cream, not liquids which make them carry-on friendly for airplanes.

I have been using Tom Ford stick for a while now. It’s very easy to apply and blends very well , you don’t even need anything to blend with . I use my fingers to blend . It’s creamy texture and covers very nicely any imperfections. It’s easy to carry and stays and long wearing . Love it .

I have been using the Bobbi Brown stick for years and still, try as I might, have not found one other liquid or powder foundation that can come close. And believe me, I have tried them all including all the high end brands. Gives me great coverage and isn't drying or shiny. Perfection!

I want to try all of these. I did try the Fit brand. It is very light and not nearly enough coverage. I have not been able to find anything as good as Max Factor foundation stick. (why would they stop making something so good?) I am 58 and I want coverage. I don't want light and sheer! The price is no object for me when it works. Like a comfy pair of shoes and and a swimsuit that fits and hides all the imperfections!

I've used the Maybelline & Dermablend. Dermablend is designed to cover scars, birthmarks, etc so it is much heavier. The Maybelline is a nice texture and gives a medium to full coverage. I use both with a foundation brush. That seems to work best for me. The others are too expensive in my opinion. I just can't justify spending that much on makeup, no matter how great they are.

Maybelline is quite nice considering cost. I use a small amount of liquid foundation, place my bronzer and blush, then I use this as a highlighter and spread it with a makeup brush. Softens bronzer lines, beautiful coverage and so good for the budget.

I noticed that many of the commenters before me seem to think these are concealers. They're not concealers, they are foundation. ELF has a new stick foundation out I've been meaning to try. I used the pan stik when Max Factor was still around and it gave amazing coverage.

I actually like the foundation stick made by Benefit .. Goes on very smooth .. just the right amount if coverage .. lasts all day.

I agree on the cost, most of them are quite expensive. I wouldn't mind trying one in a reasonable price range though, such as the Maybelline Fit Me!
