3 Short Hairstyles for Fall 2012

Posted by ChickAdvisor Team | Thursday September 6, 201227 comments

Miley had the right idea when she decided to go for the chop not too long ago (no pun intended!) and try a short and edgy pixie cut! We recently got the chance to speak with Eric Del Monaco, hair guru and owner of Del Monaco Hair Studio here in Toronto and he gave us the 411 on fall hair trends. You heard it from the best chicks: lengths are rising; short hair is where it is at this fall. With that in mind, we asked him to speak more on what short styles we can try this fall and he did us one better by showing us. With the help from two of his stylists: Daniel Fortunato and Sylvie Prud'Homme, they created three trending hairstyles for fall.

Hairstyle #1

Pro Tip #1: Hey Blondes! As we move into the cooler months, you'll probably want to do the same with your hair. Tone down your colour and try an few shades cooler. When it comes to your cut, be sure to keep movement and bend in your hair.

Hairstyle #2

Pro Tip #2: Colour blocking isn't just for fashion, it's also for your hair. Dye sections of your hair one or two levels darker or lighter for an everyday wearable style. Or go for a more dramatic look with two different colours (i.e. black and blonde). Even with a cut like this that has more defined lines, remember that you can always have looser pieces and texturized hair.

Hairstyle #3

Pro Tip #3: This cut is the most artistic and avant garde of the three so it may not be the cut for everyone. However, do take note of the geometric shapes in the cut that will be big for fall as well as the heavy and blunt fringe.

Let's hear your thoughts on these short styles!

I'm lazy and short haircuts really need great maintenance. I have worn my hair from a pixie cut to bum length, and am happiest with the length I have now - to my mid back. It's so much more versatile and easier to style when it's longer. I had the WORST bed head when my hair was short. Long hair weighs most of that down and I can get away with washing 2x per week now which saves my colour.

Speaking of colour, I do tend to go warmer in spring/summer and more ashy in fall/winter so I agree with tip #1. I don't mind punchy colour accents like in #3 which goes well with her edgy cut, but it has to be done right. Her stylized makeup looks cute on the picture (like a china doll, no?), but I don't know how wearable that would be on the street.

I don't like any of those, I have always preferred longer hairstyles for women

@Patricia, you could do it in the forums or the easiest would be in your ChickAdvisor profile and then post the links here :)

Wow I really don't like any of these. I feel like all of these would be haircuts that you look back on a few years later like "What the hell was I thinking?"

#1 is probably the cut I would likely choose, if ever I wanted to make the big chop.

I'm honestly not a fan of these particular looks, but I do admire people who can pull of short styles!

I always had short hair growing up until my thirties and then I started growing it out. When I was younger I could be more daring with short haircuts..I find short hair very cute if its the right cut.I really don't care for the above cuts they look to uneven to me.
