Are You a Shopaholic?

Got a bit of a shopping problem? WebMD wants to help... but do we want to be helped?
They wrote an article that likens shopping to other addictive behaviors such as alcoholism, drug abuse and gambling. Is that a fair comparison? We say, Helllll No!

Here is their list of indicators that you may be a bona fide Shopaholic. Don't worry, we've come up with some great rebuttals so you needn't get bogged down with their message of doom and gloom...

* Spending over budget
So we all go a little over budget from time to time. Surely we can agree it's because most of us are underpaid, yes? If it costs $100 for a decent pair of pants and that is a day's wages, is it really our fault if we spend more than we can afford? Shouldn't our cheap @ss employer shoulder some of the blame here?

* Compulsive buying
Quick question. Define "Compulsive". Must all shopping be pre-meditated? Sometimes the best inspiration comes from last minute purchases.

* It's a chronic problem
Pfffft! Didn't George Bush tell everyone to keep shopping to support the economy? Sound advice that can apply to all Nations.

*Hiding the problem
B$tch, please. My business is my business. I'm not about to go to confession every time I buy a new pair of heels.

* A vicious circle.
Buy. Feel guilty. Return. At return register see something even better and buy that instead. Feel guilty. Return...

Simple solution. Don't feel bad. We only live once, right? Stop the cycle by just feeling good about your purchases.

* Impaired relationships
Come now. Are we really responsible for the jealousy of others?

*Clear consequences.
If looking frick'n AMAZING counts as a consequence, we can live with that.

If you feel you are living with a shopping addiction, read the article from WebMD.

On the other hand, if you need further justification on your shopping habits discuss this in our forums and we'll do our best to help you rationalize those blues away... ;)
