Beauty Products I'm Using Now: July 'Empties' Edition

Posted by Alexandra C. | Thursday July 26, 20129 comments

Last month around this time, I told you about my resolution to only 'shop my stash'. I've been trying to only use the products I already have at home and to resist the urge to go out and buy new ones. Chicks, let me tell you, it's been hard. I would be lying if I told you that I followed this rule completely. However, I was on much better behaviour this month and I only purchased one or two products that were new. Others I purchased were "needed" (hem hem, rationalization) to replace products I had used up. This month, I have five more products that I completely used up. You'll be happy to know that my medicine cabinet is slowly clearing up and becoming more organized. Yay! Only this time, I won't go out and celebrate by buying myself something new.

I'll go through each of my 'empties', give you my opinion, tell you whether or not I would repurchase and link each one to a full review.

Empty #1:  Mary Kay Subtle Tanning Lotion
Price: (C$16.00)

The Verdict: Confession: I fake it. I am a bronzing and self tanning lover. I will admit it. Most self tanners don't smell very nice, but this one is quite pleasant. It gives a very subtle bronzed sun kissed glow, good for paler folk like myself.

Repurchase? I would repurchase this. I found that it didn't last me as long as I had hoped but it's a good product. I might try some other brands of self tanners before going back to this one though.

Empty #2: Live Clean Fresh Face Glowing Daily Serum
Price: (C$22.99)

The Verdict: It's hard to measure whether or not serums that promise glowing really work, but I will say that I felt that my skin looked brighter when I used this.

Repurchase? I'm kind of on the fence about repurchasing this one. It's a quality product and I like the price point, but I think I might first do some digging around for a similar product to see how they compare. I don't want to commit until I see what else is out there.

Empty #3: L'Oreal Total Repair 5 Intensive Mask
Price: (C$7.69)

The Verdict: I really liked this hair mask. It wasn't too heavy, but at the same time, it was hydrating enough to deal with my rough, dry ends. I used it every other time I washed my hair (sometimes every time) and I noticed my hair was much smoother. A bonus is that it also smells very nice.

Repurchase? Yes, I would! In fact, I already went to the store with the intent to repurchase. Only they had run out (horror!), so I'm trying out a similar hair mask from L'Oreal at the moment.

Empty #4: Lush Grease Lightning Tea Tree Cleanser
Price: (C$12.95)

The Verdict: I actually use this product regularily. It was also included in my skincare routine which you can check out here. It's great for all over my face because it contains aloe to soothe your skin and the tea tree oil is great for fighting blemishes and bacteria.

Repurchase? Yes, yes, yes! I actually tried to go without it when I finished this bottle but then broke down and repurchased because I missed it so much and there isn't anything else like it.

Empty #5: Laneige Snow BB Cream SPF41 PA ++
Price: (US$28.00)

The Verdict: This one is actually a sample but it lasted me a while because it is pretty thick and pigmented. I love that it contains an SPF so it doubles as a sunscreen.

Repurchase? I really like this cream, it's probably one of the best I've tried but it's so hard to find so I'm not sure if it is worth the hunt. If I come across it again though, I will definitely pick it up!

What beauty products are you using right now? Are there any that you're loving? Or maybe a few that you're not such a big fan of? Leave a comment and let me know, or better yet, write a review!

@midnightsun2288 I use this as a spot treatment or as a an all over acne treatment and I really like it. If tea tree oil is something that works for you then I highly recommend it. Also my lip colour is the Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain in 03 Strawberry Kiss. It's one of my purse essentials too: http://www.chickadvisor.com/article/chick-staff-mobile-makeup-kits-on-the-go-purse-essentials-tips-and-tricks/

I've also bin using the L'Oreal Total Repair 5 Intensive mask on my hair since June. I was looking for good mask for my type of hair for a long time and when I came across this one I fell in love. I also can't live with out my Garnier BB Cream. I have only tried one other brand before, but I didn’t care for it. I have noticed a lot more brands coming out with BB Creams of their own lately so there are more to pick from since I started using mine.
