Golden Globes Red Carpet 2012 Best & Worst Dressed List (PLUS Vote to Win!)

Posted by ChickAdvisor Team | Monday January 16, 201289 comments

We're officially in Awards Season and here at ChickAdvisor we've caught the bug! We can't get enough of gorgeous red carpet fashion and last night's Golden Globes was definitely THE remedy for our fashion cravings. Of course, not everyone hit our Best Dressed List: like any award show, there was the good, the meh and the Just Plain Wrong.

Alexandra's Picks: Top 3 Best Dressed

Evan Rachel Wood, Nicole Kidman, Sofia Vergara

Alexandra absolutely loves the green jewel tones in Evan Rachel Wood's dress: the feather, scales and sequins are a bit extreme, but she's all about the impact they make. Alexandra thinks Nicole Kidman is simply stunning in this ivory and sequinned column dress. Lastly, Alexandra says: "every time I look at Sofia, I think, 'Dayummmmm gurl!' She has some major hot curves in this number."

Claire's Picks: Top 3 Best Dressed

Kate Winslet, Tilda Swinton, Shailene Woodley

Claire loves Kate Winslet in this chic black and white gown; the jewelled belt cinches in her waist to show off curves. Tilda Swinton often takes red carpet risks and this one paid off in spades; Shailene Woodley's embellished gown is pretty, feminine and perfectly suited to her age and figure.

Honourable Mentions

Rooney Mara, Emma Stone, Salma Hayek

Rooney Mara's cut-out dress adds visual interest and drama, but the black colour is a bit funereal for us. Emma Stone's gorgeous wine taffeta dress gets huge props for the slit and plunging neckline-- what's up with the belt?  Salma Hayek is glittering and gold in this number, though the overall effect with sequinned bottom is a bit much.

Love/Hate List

Charlize Theron, Lea Michele, Angelina Jolie

Then there are the polarizing choices that no one can really agree on (including us at ChickAdvisor HQ). Claire says 'Yay' for Charlize Theron but Alexandra protests 'Nay' for the asymmetrical hemline. Lea Michele gets Thumbs Down from Claire, but Alexandra defends the gown's pattern and silver glitter. Alexandra is in love with Angelina Jolie's sleek satin number but Claire thinks Angie looks chill (not in a good way).

The Undecided

Dianna Agron, Claire Danes, Zooey Deschanel

We're waffling on these next 6 gowns (above and below)Dianna Agron's too busy, Claire Danes was ho-hum in front but va-va-voom from behind, and we're genuinely conflicted about Zooey Deschanel.

Mila Kunis, Natalie Portman, Jessica Alba

Mila is a beautiful woman, but this dress does absolutely nothing for her.  We adore Natalie but find this dress a little plain, while we want to love Jessica's bejewelled number but. just. can't.

Worst Dressed Picks

Sarah Michelle Gellar, Kelly Osbourne, Michelle Williams

Yup, we're going there: these gowns gave us the blues.

Madonna, Meryl Streep, Amanda Peet

The Material Girl takes her moniker just a little too seriously, Meryl is dowdy, and Amanda Peet looks like wedding cake.

Now it's your turn: help us settle our disagreement over Best Dressed and in return, we'll award one random commenter with a prize!

Choose Alexandra's Best Dressed Picks, Claire's Best Dressed Picks, or feel free to tell us we're both off our rockers below in the comments.  You have until Sunday, January 22 (2012) to post your choice.

I'll have to go with Alexandra's top 3 picks, since the dresses are more classic and elegant

I generally agree with the lists above but I think the best dressed were: Nicole Kidman (she looks so breathtaking), Kate Winslet (She looks very classy), Shailene Woodley (Very natural looking), and I actually like Angeline Jolie and Emma Stone's looks, they're dressed out of their elements. Angelina is not wearing black and Emma is embracing her feminine side. And of course Jessica Alba and Selma Hayek look great, I think they always do!

For worst dressed, I would say: Tilda Swinton (it looks like a glorified version of my grandmothers suit), Rooney Mara (The dress seems like it is all over the place), Kelly Osbourne (this also looks like a glorified grandmother suit) and Amanda Peet (Why are you hiding under all those misplaced layers?)

Here's my take:

Evan Rachel Wood - Mermaid scales have gotta go, make up and hair looks like she's been holding her breath too long.

Nicole Kidman - Plastic surgery gone way too far. Her dress looks like someone bedazzled a bedsheet.

Sofia Vergara - BEST DRESSED AWARD - THIS is how you do a red carpet. Excellent colour pic for her skin complexion and a flattering dress for her curvy figure.

Kate Winslet - THIRD BEST DRESSED - Always hits it out of the park. Also chooses figure flattering, colour flattering and age appropriate dresses.

Tilda Swinton - This alien just stepped off of the set of The David Bowie Story.

Shailene Woodley - is there a dress and a body there? She looks like a boring, monochromatic pile of oatmeal.

Rooney Mara - The black cut out was accessorized perfectly (minimal) and was the cut outs were striking. Win.

Emma Stone - The dress is gorge. Too bad she accessorized with a Harley Davidson belt.

Salma Hayek - SECOND BEST DRESSED AWARD - I don't know who's boobs were better, hers or Sofia's. Oh and PS. If I was reincarnated to the 70's as a 20 something, I'd have totally rocked this at Studio 54.

Charlize Theron - Sorry about your dress barfing that bow on you. Also, the headband is for someone from Toddlers and Tiaras, not the red carpet.

Lea Michele - Is that a skating outfit?

Angelina Jolie - The red lip on the dress looks like the designer forgot to cut that piece off. Cut that off and it would have been a great gown.

Dianna Agron - The colour popped and the style suited her body and was quite flattering.

Claire Danes - The dress was not that great, though the back cut out was cool. That being said, she needed some band aid for her nipples or they needed to sew in a bra for her because her boobs looked tragic.

Zooey Deschanel - While her gown may have been one of a kind.....I get why. No one would want to replicate it because it's ugly.

Mila Kunis - A sad choice after her pretty purple gown from last year. I don't blame her....guess she had a difficult time topping that.

Natalie Portman - You're so beautiful. Why do you wear ugly and unflattering dresses? Get a new stylist.

Jessica Alba - Total MILF last night. Great dress choice and great colour for the new mom.

Sarah Michelle Gellar - Do you want to know what throwing up tie die would look like? Just look at her dress.

Kelly Osbourne - Bwahahahahahahahhahahahahaah. That's all I have to say about that. PS. I think she was attempting to channel Sophia from Golden Girls with her hair choice.

Michelle Williams - Cute. But ditch the Lululemon headband please.

Madonna - Between her annoying voice, her annoying man arms, her annoying presence and her annoying attitude, nothing she could wear would make me like Madge. In her infamous words..."I LOATHE it".

Meryl Streep - I think she missed her stop to the Calgary Stampede. Seriously? WTF.

Amanda Peet - Why are you wearing curtains from 1976?

I am going to go with CLAIRE'S PICKS..because each one of those women chose the perfect dress to accent their body types!! I gotta say Jessica Alba looked breath-taking in my opinion last night and was probably my favourite, although she is always gorgeous no matter where she is or what she is dressed in! I also loved Emma Stone's, it was different and very elegant on her and I personally did like Diana Argon's dress for uniqueness...but HATED her co-star Lea Micheles..it made her look chunky which is definitely far from!!

I disagree with most of their choices...haha
the best dress would be IMO Charlize Theron

And on my dress list would be
Claire Danes
Kate Winslet
Angelina Jolie ( although she's way too thin )
Emma Stone

On the HATE It list would be Nicole Kidman, Lea Michele Madonna..

Also about Nicole Kidman, I thought she looked incredible but HOLY does she look thin!!! Me and my mom agreed, she actually looks like a barbie. She looks gorgeous, but I definitely am not a fan of the rail thin image that Hollywood has going...

I agree with Alexandra's picks I gotta say (sorry Clare!) and thought that the silhouette of Evan Rachel Wood and Sofia Vergara's dresses was a common one last night. I LOVED Emma Stone's dress (but then again I have a bit of a girl crush on her lol) and was also questioning Zooey Deschanel's dress, even though she still managed to look adorable.

Did you ladies see Jessica Biel's dress though? I was really not a fan of the weird bunchy lace, not to mention it being see through in parts, and the questionable slit.

Also in regards to Natalie Portman, I think she looks pretty meh and a quote I saw on tumblr - though mean - sums up my feelings on her look...someone said it looks like she's wearing a prom dress from JC Penny.
