How To Bring Back The Past In 2010

In 2010, everything old is new again. At a recent event led by celebrated makeup artist Greg Wencel, I learned how to re-create three different looks from three different decades.

The 60s: "In the 60s women were perfectly polished and weren’t afraid to make a bold statement with their features," said Wencel. "Beauty-wise, the 60s was a transformational time for women as they had many choices with their cosmetics."

Icon: Brigitte Bardot

The look: Cat eyes and bedroom eyes

Make it yours: Line your eyes with CoverGirl Smoky ShadowBlast in Black Onyx rather than liner. Use the angled end along your lid to draw an exaggerated tail, and the rounded end to highlight under your brow bone.

The 70s: "The whole “hippie” movement in the 70s signaled a drastic change for women and beauty. It was about getting back-to-basics with a natural look."

Icon: Farrah Fawcett

The look: Radiant, natural-looking skin

Make it yours: After applying your foundation, use a colour corrector like CoverGirl's Simply Ageless Corrector on any darker discolorations like dark circles and red blemishes. The corrector contains yellow pigments that offset the dark colours. Finish the look by applying concealer to any other minor imperfections. Pat it into your skin using staccato taps of your finger until it dissolves and blends.

The 80s: "Beauty looks of the 80s can be summarized in two words: Big and bold! This was a fun decade where there was no holding back on expressing yourself through beauty or fashion."

Icon: Alyssa Milano circa her Who's the Boss era

The look: Side braid, as seen on the Alexander Wang runways

Make it yours: Blow dry your hair with a diffuser to liven its natural wave. Part it to the side and braid it further down the length of your hair for a more relaxed finish.

Turns out my look is bang on trend, no?

What decade will you revive this year?
