We Love Fridays: AE+Y Aesir Phone

Posted by Alexandra C. | Friday October 21, 20114 comments

This is the AE+Y Aesir phone. It's gorgeous, isn't it? Usually for a 'We Love Fridays' we'll go with an crazy expensive gorgeous pair of heels but this week, I felt like something a little different and I just recently heard about this new phone.

The AE+Y phone is made to last, a surprising fact for any piece of technology these days. In fact, each piece of the phone is designed to be re-serviced and then put back together. It has a sapphire crystal lens and the screen is coated to be scratch-proof. The keys are unique in that they are not set in like other phones but are an edge to edge key design, specially produced so that they don't fall out. It also has 220 hours of stand by time, superior voice and sound quality- impressive, no?

Guess how much this phone costs. Go, ahead- take a guess! Do you have a number in your head? I guarantee you, you are wrong.

This phone is EU$42,000. Now, for that money, you're probably thinking, 'What?! That phone also better be able to wash my car, take my dog for a walk and cook dinner.' Sadly, it does not. In fact, this phone contains only the basics- call, text, calculator, alarm. Here's the kicker- it's made out of gold! Even if you did miraculously have the money for this pricey gadget- you probably wouldn't get one- only 25 gold phones will be made in 2011.

Personally, while having a phone made out of gold would definitely make me feel like a badass James Bond villian, I don't think I would ever shell out this much for such a basic phone.

Would you? If you had $42,000 at your disposal- what would you do with it?

I found it so weird that something like this is soooo expensive yet it only has a couple of functions. I guess the whole idea behind it is that it's 'lasting luxury' but still com'on- $42,000!!!!!!

I'm such a practical person, so spending that kind of dough on something that only has basic functions is not worth it to me. I rather use that money to buy several electronics that do everything...

I feel like texting will confuse me on this phone... lol But even if I had $42 000 to spend, I think I'd rather spend it on like a super awesome vacation for us. Like a visit-every-Disney-park-in-the-world kind of vacation. And a couple cruises, obvs.
