We Love Fridays: Atelier Cologne

So I have talked about this ad nauseam, but I am obsessed with finding my signature scent. Somehow I got it into my head that every chic woman must have a signature scent that defines her style and who she is. I imagine that the effortlessly cool ladies of Paris all have a signature scent that they spritz on every morning as they casually make their way down to the cafe for a cappuccino. Obviously, a gorgeous signature scent is the key to living well.

Sadly for me, I have spent the last few years of my life sans signature scent, always on the hunt for the elusive smell I was after. Except, I was recently invited to discover a few of Atelier Cologne's products and ladies, I may have found my signature scent. Atelier Cologne produces some of the most beautiful smells you have ever encountered. It's times like these I wish that Steve Jobs had invented scratch 'n' sniff computers instead of iPods.

Atelier uses only the best ingredients and colognes are based on citrus and built up for really rich, complex scents. The scents are strong, so a little goes a long way (unlike other scents that lose their punch after a few minutes these ones are long lasting). Babes - I am officially addicted.

I can't decide which fragrance I like best, so I snagged samples of a few and am rotating them. I did however splurge on a small travel-size spray bottle of Vanille Insensee. It might be my new true love. Now, I'm not a gal who likes vanilla perfumes. I find them sickly sweet. With notes of jasmine, lime and oak, moss and coriander, this spicy vanilla is to die for.

What makes Atelier Cologne so special is that each fragrance not only smells different on every person, but they mean something different to each person. Founders Sylvie Ganter and Christopher Cervasel explained to me that to choose a fragrance, you needed to smell, try it on and then figure out the ingredients. Because just like a fabulous meal, you need to taste it first before the chef comes out to tell you what you ate.

Consider my signature scent found, chicks.

I'm going to look for them in Sephora, too. Check out this how-to in perfume testing; http://davelackie.com/?p=433 he says to always use the paper blotters provider rather than sniffing the bottles (in the pre-wrist stage) as you'll only get the top notes from just taking a sniff of the cap, whereas the paper lets the whole scent develop.

I absolutely love the Orange Sanguine scent. When it first hit shelves in Sephora, it caught my eye: Orange Sanguine smells like a summery afternoon in Tuscany, and after this winter drab, I needed a scent that will flourish with my summertime thoughts. For Valentine's Day, my boyfriend purchased the set for me so now I have the soap as well- fresh, and alluring.

I've tried a few Atelier scents over the years. Orange Sanguine is nice as well, but I haven't been able to justify buying a bottle when my perfume collection already needs some editing!
