I tried a sample of this from my dermatologist's office to see if it was gentle enough for my skin when I was on acutane. To be honest, I found it to be extremely similar to the Spectro Gel I was using, which I found to be very similar to the generic store brand of the very same thing. So, case in point, if any cleanser claims to be gentle and fragrance free, then chances are it is just the same as any other. Nothing wrong with it, but it isn't spectacular enough to purchase it over another, similar brand. -

I can't even remember how many times I purchased this in the past. It did the trick the first time, and I never looked for anything else, since I was satisfied. It removed nail polish without damaging my nails. I did (and still do) find the smell of nail polish remover nauseates me a bit, however, which is the only criticism I have. I have yet to find a cruelty-free nail polish remover, so until then, I think I'll just have to avoid nail polish altogether. -

Back in my pre cruelty-free days, I loved this nail polish so much that I must have owned 10 different colours. I loved that it dried so quickly, and the shades were so opaque and pigmented. I feel as though it compares to OPI in consistency, but for a fraction of the price. It was definitely hard to give up on this product, but Sally Hansen sadly isn't cruelty-free. :( -

My former colleague bought me a few shades in this brand for Christmas, a dark green and sort of a sparkly black. I'd given away all of my other nail polish shortly before, since I became cruelty-free, and it was the first cruelty-free nail polish that I owned. It's not bad; could definitely benefit from a base and top coat (which I have yet to purchase), and I'm not too crazy over the colours, but it definitely has potential! -

I owned one of these, once upon a time, but I only remember using it once because I was so disappointed as a product. Have you ever drawn on your lips with markers as a kid? Well, that's basically what it felt and tasted like. My lips felt oddly sticky all day, and whenever I accidentally licked my lips, it reminded me of what it must feel like to lick a scented marker. The worst part is while the colour didn't really last, the feeling did. There are much better lip stains out there; don't put yourself through this! -

The biggest downside to going cruelty-free with my cosmetics and skincare products is that there really isn't a decent razor out there that isn't put out by a company that doesn't add up to being cruelty-free. When I have time, I do sugar waxing, but in a pinch, I'm still using my Venus razor. I have thick, coarse hair on my legs, so those 5 blades really come in handy. That said, as soon as the universe delivers something similar, I'm not so attached that I won't switch it up! -

I grew up using this shave gel because it was what my mother used, and I really didn't know better. But no matter what 'scent' or type I would buy, I always found razor irritation on my inner thighs, so years later I decided to research alternatives. Evidently, using hair conditioner is non-irritating, AND gives you a closer shave, according to one life hack--and I can confirm that's true! Now I just use any old moisturizing conditioner (cruelty-free) when I shave my legs, and not only has the razor irritation stopped completely, but I do get a much closer shave! -

This is kind of an unconventional review, since it's for something I ordered custom-made, but I need to talk about it anyway. Thenightsky.com creates custom maps of what the starry sky looked like on any date/location you want. This was the perfect gift for my parents' anniversary, so I put the date and place of their wedding, and I got a snapshot of the night sky way back then. It's absolutely beautiful, and for $60 CAD with free shipping, I feel that it was 100% worth every cent I paid. There is nothing more unique than giving someone the stars on the happiest day of their lives. (The pic isn't mine, just a sample of what they have on the site--I still need to find a frame!) -

I was recommended this product by a cosmetician in Shoppers, and I was skeptical about the price. In the $20 range, it's definitely an investment, and I've spent enough money on tweezers that I didn't find worked for me. Fortunately, I was happy to find that these are the most amazing tweezers I have ever owned! I don't pull out extra hairs when trying to be precise while plucking my eyebrows, and they even grip onto fine hairs. So long as I don't lose these tweezers, I won't ever buy another pair. If you're looking to invest in a decent pair of tweezers, these are for you! -

I received a packet of this shampoo and conditioner as a sample, and I am glad I didn't pay for it. Something about the shampoo, even though I used the whole packet on my medium-length hair, made it feel rather unclean. As for the conditioner, it wasn't really all that noteworthy. I'm not sure what it costs, but regardless, even if this was cruelty-free, it isn't a product that I would consider buying, if for no other reason than while it was moisturizing, it didn't exactly bring out my low-lights. Perhaps this is something that occurs with continued use, but I won't be investing in it to find out. Might be better suited for drier hair types. -
