10 Members' Faves: Summer Waves and Curls

Posted by Tammy | Wednesday May 18, 20114 comments

We love the beachy waves, and come summer we want to put away our flat iron and coax some curls out of our hair. If you've got some natural wave or curl, the below will help you tame frizz, and if you're hair is more straight, the below can help get some natural wave going in hair you've let air dry or hit with a diffuser.

1. Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Curl Boosting Mousse
"Oh My Goodness, simply the best mousse you could find for curls. No crunch, just curls, cute bouncy and delightfully scented curls. I absolutely would recommend it to anyone. I cant say anything bad except you have to wash your hands after you apply it, but its mousse, you should wash them anyways." -NekoleDae

2. Samy Get Curls Reactivating Lotion
"Anyone with curly hair knows how hard it is to find a product that doesn't dry your hair out even more, and that actually works. I applied this to my hair when it was damp and I was shocked at how little was needed, I was expecting to apply more throughout the day to keep my hair silky, but when my hair dried I was amazed—my hair looked great." -jaimartinez

3. Rene Furterer Acanthe Curl Hair Leave-in Fluid
"This product is lightweight and helps to provide body to natural curl while at the same time helps to control frizz and volume. The secret lies in a combination of natural ingredients such as Acanthus extract and avocado oil. Another plus is that the product has no sulfates and no sodium chloride." -Sweet Tea

4. Got2b Kinky Curl Defining Curling Mousse
"With this mousse, I have soft, defined waves that are no curlier than my natural look but it all looks more organized and actually styled. Not too bad for a product that takes me 2 minutes to apply, scrunch in, and go. There is no crunchiness (unless I overapply of course) and the scent dissipates quickly—and it's not at all unpleasant to begin with." -mamaluv

5. Aussie Sprunch Hair Spray
"I love Aussie simply because of the festive purple bottles the products are in. This hair spray I find works really well if you want waves in your hair, not curls. The spray doesn't seem to hold my curls very well but it creates a nice waving effect anyways. The spray isn't heavy and doesn't make my hair feel sticky which is great and the fruity smell is excellent." -kimberlyleonae

6. Marc Anthony Dream Waves Beach Spray
"Bought this product to help give my hair some body and texture this summer without having to use the blow dryer in sweaty weather. First off, the product smells sooooo yummy, like pina coladas. But not super strong in a offensive way, very subtle and sweet. And it gave my hair lots of body, volume while making it kinky and wavy." -LadyFlash

7. David Babaii For WildAid Bohemian Beach Spray
"In the summer, I was obsessed with getting that natural beachy wave. Ali [from ChickAdvisor] received this at a Sears event and I was lucky enough to test it out. I LOVE it! Girls, if you want full sexy volume and need to hold those curls this spray will do it!" -make-up junkie

8. John Frieda Frizz Ease Dream Curls Curl-Perfecting Spray
"This product is my summer life saver! I have very curly, unmanageable hair at the best of times but in this humidity I might as well be wearing a poodle on my head! Frizz Ease Dream Curls Curl-Perfecting Spray helps keep my curls looking amazing without the "crunchy-ness" that comes with most curl taming products. The best part...I can use it when I'm in too much of a hurry to wash my hair and my hair doesn't get bogged down under the layers!" -Hayley925

9. Fekkai Marine Summer Hair Beach Waves
"It smells like summertime in a bottle (I think I detect a bit of coconut in there somewhere!) and makes my hair so soft and smooth. It's a leave in conditioner so I don't have to worry about it not being in my hair when I really need it. The ingredients appear separated in the bottle and once you shake it, it looks like a creamsicle and definitely smells good enough to eat." -Diva SuperB

10. Moroccanoil Intense Curl Cream
"When i tried it I fell in love with it and had to share it with everyone. Not only does it separate your curls, it really moisturizes your hair at the same time. You barely have to put a drop in and it lasts all day long and your hair smells like you had your hair done at the salon. No one knows you have hair product in your hair it's so light." -pixiestix

My natural hair is very straight, and it's also really thick and fairly long. I'm going camping for my summer holiday.

I love John Frieda Dream Curls, the only problem I find with it is I have very thick hair so I need to use a fair bit of the spray. For that reason, the bottle doesn't last me very long. Herbal Essences is great though! Price, quality, everything.

I read so many good things about Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Curl Boosting Mousse and the price is really affordable so I am definitely going to try that one. My main concern is to not have my hair look and feel crunchy.

I tried the Herbal Essences Mousse, and it's awesome! I love that it doesn't crunch like most mousses do!
