Best Mascaras of 2011

Posted by ChickAdvisor Team | Thursday December 22, 201129 comments

Mascara is a girl's best friend, so we're taking a moment to look back on 2011 and see which mascaras got your highest marks (and ours).

We start with the runners-up:

The Under-$10 category was definitely the most hotly contested.  Runner-up shout-outs go to:

#1 - Maybelline New York Colossal Volum' Express
#2 - Maybelline New York Lash Stiletto
#3 - L'Oréal Paris Voluminous
#4 - Maybelline New York Great Lash
#5 - Maybelline New York "The Falsies"

As impressive as accessibly-priced drugstore mascaras have become, sometimes a little splurge is in order. The top-rated Luxe mascaras were:

#1 - Dior DiorShow
#2 - Blinc Kiss Me
#3 - Clinique High Impact Mascara
#4 - Lancôme Définicils
#5 - Lancôme Hypnôse

Last but obviously not least, your votes crowned an overall First Place Winner and ChickAdvisor's 2011 top honour goes to:

CoverGirl LashBlast

But as Ryan Gosling once famously said, "It's still not over!"

You see, our ChickAdvisor staffers also have strong opinions on their favourite mascaras, and while it proved nearly impossible to narrow it down to just one apiece, we finally made up our minds:

Claire says: "Once in a while you come across a high end product that really lives up to its luxe price point" like Yves Saint Laurent Shocking.

Mandy says: "I love how L'Oreal Paris Voluminous Million Lashes defines, lengthen and separates my lashes. Best of all, it doesn't flake. At this price point, you really can't go wrong!"

Ali says: Giorgio Armani Eyes To Kill give her "fat, plush, long lashes that are very dramatic without being clumpy."

Michelle says: "My favourite Mascara of 2011 was Sephora Atomic Mascara! I received a sample as part of my birthday gift from Sephora and I loved the formula and effect so much, I was really sad when I finished my sample. It's been my beauty staple ever since."

Shiori says: "Despite trying countless mascaras, L'Oreal Paris Telescopic Clean Definition Mascara is the one I always come back to! Doesn't clump and gives lots of length."

Did your favourite mascara make our list?

Woo hoo, mine made the list! lol

I used to swear by Maybelline's Colassal Volume' Express after getting it to review, until they came out with "The Falsies". I would be very upset if they ever got rid of it.

@Beachbabe - oops! You're absolutely right. I think it's high time I watched that move again, just to be sure ;) Thanks for the heads up - I changed the quote reference.

Wasn't is Noah, aka Ryan Gosling, who said "It's still not over"? Oh well, no matter! I personally love Maybelline Last Stiletto but that's a more recent finding of mine. CoverGirl Last Blast is still definitely #1 for me.

@ Becky, I actually prefer the voluminous million lashes in the waterproof formula cause it stays on so well! I think this is the first mascara I have owned that doesn't flake or smudge so must give it thumbs up for that. I usuallly use this one over my telescopic for night time cause it gives it a bit more of a dramatic look.

I've tried almost all the mascaras listed here, and my current favourite is L'Oreal voluminous million lashes. It really gives a falsies look and doesn't seem to clump. My only peeve with it is I stupidly bought the waterproof one, and it's very hard to take off!

All 4 of my favourite mascaras are in the top picks: Great Lash, Voluminous Original, Lash Blast and DiorShow. I'm also loving the Great Lash Lots of Lash lately- it has a really great brush for doing the small lashes on the corners. I'm pretty dedicated to my mascaras- if I find something I like, I stick to it so I always go back fto one of the four.

I personally wouldn't rank Lash Blast as the best one. At the price point I totally agree with Mandy on the
L'Oreal Paris Voluminous Million Lashes
