Brave the Bikini: At-Home Hair Removal

Posted by Tasha | Wednesday July 13, 20119 comments

Let’s face it. It’s July, it’s hardly acceptable to be hiding in pants in the middle of this heat. But fear not the dreaded pool party, removing body hair at home is made easy(-er) and (almost) painless with the right products. So gear bare leg beauties and don’t be afraid to don that bikini.

Bliss Poetic Waxing Kit (C$60.00) has got you covered when it comes to hair removal, with microwavable wax, and pre- and post- waxing oil.

Parissa Warm Wax (US$12.00) promises eight beautiful, hair-free weeks, and the bottle of Azulene will prevent pesky ingrown hair to boot.

Use Tweezerman Point Tweezers  (C$28.00) to tackle the stray hairs that get you down in the morning.

Kiehl’s Simply Mahvelous Legs Shave Cream (C$23.50) combines Allantoin and chamomile to give you a close shave and legs you can’t help but touch.

Intuition Naturals Sensitive Care (C$11.99) is enriched with Vitamin E and fragrance free for a clean shave that won’t irritate the skin.

There’s nothing better than smooth and soft legs, Skintimate Raspberry Rain (C$3.99) can help with both.

Quattro for Women TrimStyle Sensitive (C$12.99) cleans up that bikini line so there’s no reason you can’t RSVP to that pool party next weekend.

Shobha Sugaring Kit for Body and Bikini (US$30.00) is a sweet (ha) and natural new way to get rid of unwanted hair.

Veet Salon Line Wax Strips (C$13.09) are prefect for precision waxing, on eyebrows, lips or chin. It’s like going to the salon without leaving your home.

Do you have any home hair removal horror stories?

Ive got a new tip for waxing that works really well. I hate waxing, it really hurts, but i like the feel of my skin better than shaving. I started rubbing a hair growth inhibitor on my legs and underarms after i have my waxing done. It makes the results last twice as long. I use one called Kalo. There is also a natural spray that uses the spice turmeric that is supposed to work well ;)

mamaluv I had the same problem with ingrown hairs on my legs when I used
an epilator. That was way back when it first came out. No matter how I
did it I'd get ingrown hairs and no one wants that all over they're
legs. I never tried in on my under arms, but you are right, the more I
used it on my legs the easier it was. If I hadn't started getting the
ingrown hairs all of the time I'd probably still be using it. I haven't
tried the Trim-style yet, but I've been meaning to pick one up. Maybe
next week I'll get adventurous enough to give it a try.LOL

My fave of the bunch is Parissa Warm Wax, which I use for under the arms. I've tried doing the bikini area but ended up injuring myself. You really need to follow the instructions. I now go to get that done professionally and aside from that I use my epilator for my legs. Love it!

The thing about waxing or epilating is that you have to suffer several sessions' worth until the hair gets thin enough that it hurts less. It does scare away the newbies, that's for sure! I am fine on the legs, but even after months of trying to get bikini and underarms working, I have too many problems there with ingrowns and overly tender skin. Might have to go back to shaving :(
