DIY Beauty: How to make a homemade toner

A good toner is hard to find...

Which is why I decided to put my skills to use and DIY one, perfect for me and my skin! This toner recipe is simple, easy and can be customized depending on your skin type. If you're 'blessed' with combination skin prone to blemishes like myself then stick with the ingredients but adding more or less or certain ingredients will work for drier or more oily skin.

What you'll need:

4 tbsp of strongly brewed green tea (I used three tea bags per mug)
2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
1 tbsp witch hazel (can be found in most drugstores)
1/2- 3/4 tbsp lemon juice (fresh or bottled)
1-2 drops of almond oil (this can be found in most drugstores or health food stores, if you can't find it, for moisturizing benefits, you can also try olive oil)
1-3 drops of tea tree oil (can be found in most drugstores or health food stores)
Container for toner (found at dollar stores)

Makes enough for small container

Step 1: Brew Tea

Step 2: Add Vinegar

For combination skin use a ratio of 2:1 of the green tea and vinegar; I found that 4 tbsp of tea and 2 tbsp of vinegar worked well for me. If you have drier skin, use more green tea than vinegar and if you have oilier or more blemish prone skin, use more vinegar.

Step 3: Add Lemon Juice

For blemish prone skin add more lemon juice but beware that because this is drying, you may want to add more tea tree or almond oil as well.

Step 4: Add Witch Hazel

Step 5: Add Almond Oil and Tea Tree Oil

This toner can be drying, so including almond oil is important for moisturizing. If your skin is sensitive to oils or is already oily, then you can add less or skip this step. If your skin is drier, feel free to add an extra drop.

Transfer your mixture into a container and store in the fridge. When you go to use it, be sure to shake it first to make sure the oil is well mixed in. Prepare yourself for gorgeous skin ladies!

@TashaCat - Great tip- thanks for sharing! I hadn't even though of that- I think an alcohol would help blemishes too and a bit wouldn't be too drying!

Alex... wondering if you have ever tried a teaspoon of high proof unflavoured vodka in your mix to emulsify the oil? This sounds interesting.... nice spritz for the beach!
