Fall 2012 Make Up Trends: The Runway

Posted by Alexandra C. | Tuesday September 11, 201211 comments

As I left my house for work today, I wore not only a cardi but a blazer as well. It was clear: fall is here. I was feeling a bit nostalgic for the summer months but I quickly perked up because I realised the following things:

1. Fall means corduroy, plaid, chunky knit sweaters galore!
2. September issue of Vogue comes out.
3. I have an excuse to not shave (like I'm the only one thinking it).
4. Leaves will start changing colour (pretty!).
5. Amazing new fall makeup products and fabulous new fall colours!

The last point got me extremely giddy. While I loved the pastels, neon brights and light makeup trends this summer, fall is seriously my kind of season. We took a look at the runway and came up with some key trends for fall that you'll definitely want to try out. Plus, we've rounded up some of the most exciting new fall beauty products that you'll want to get your hands on.

Eyes

The Trend: Jewel Tones

Rich shades of purples, greens and blues (and sometimes blended all together). Colbalt blue is big for fashion this season so it's only natural that we try it out in eye makeup too! If you want to experiment with colour but in a more wearable way, try coloured mascara.

The Trend: Earthy Browns and Reds

Burnt shades of red and brown tones with purple tints are trending in eye makeup. This look may not be for everyone, but done well, it can be very chic.

The Trend: Smoky Wings

A smoky eye is a classic and winged liner is universally flattering. Combine both of these looks this season with a smoky winged liner look. You can use only shadows, no liner for the daytime, but vamp it up with some dark liner in the evening.

Try it with:

CoverGirl Eye Enhancers 4-Kit Shadows in Pure Romance (C$5.99)

Stila In the Know Eye Shadow Palette (US$39.00)

Dior Dior Show Mascara in Azure Blue (C$31.00)

Lips

The Trend: Dark Lips

We're having a moment with the crimson lip this fall. Think deep, dark lips in shades of burgundy, purple and maroon. For those looking for some serious action, you can even try a black, sheer tinted lip balm. Also note the return of the glossy lip. We've been going matte for a while now so I'm digging the high drama and glam of the gloss.

Try it with:

1. Make Up For Ever Aqua Rouge in #13 Purple (C$27.00)

2. CoverGirl Lip Perfection Lipliner in Sophisticated (C$9.99)

3. Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Icon (C$33.00)

4. Sephora Collection Rouge Shine Lipstick in No. 35 By Your Side (C$14.00)

5. CoverGirl Lip Perfection Lipstick in Euphoria (C$9.99)

6. Lancome Absolut Nu Lipstick in Sherry Berry (US$29.50)

7. Clinique Black Honey Lip Duo (C$25.00)

Face

The Trend: Flawless Skin

It's easier said than done. This season has a focus on fresh, glowing and bright skin with rosy flushed cheeks. It's a natural and feminine look.

Try it with:

Becca Beach Tint Creme Stain for Lips and Cheeks (C$30.00)

Benefit Watt's Up Highlighter (C$34.00)

Lancome Blush Subtil Palette (US$42.00)

Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup (C$45.00)

Diorskin Nude Skin-Glowing Makeup SPF 15 (C$54.00)

Shiseido Makeup Radiant Lifting Foundation (C$48.00)

YSL Le Teint Touche Eclat Illuminating Foundation SPF 19 (C$55.00)

Can't wait to take advantage of the season and rock the jewel tone eye shadows! I am also looking forward to wearing lipshades that are reminiscent of dark cherry.

I love the Benefit "Watt's Up" highlighter! There is nothing like it...

Another trend I love this season is full brows and neutral matte eye shadows.

They all look awesome!!! Well, almost all ... some look a bit beaten up (some of the brown looks). Anyways they're all gorgeous and wearable. :)

DARK LIPS ARE BACK! Yay! :) I just recently mastered the winged eyeliner, so old school hollywood glamour, here I come!

I'm not sure that I could pull off a lot of these looks. I think they are more appropriate for the runway, in my opinion. I do like the smokey winged look, but still.. I don't think I'd personally do a style like it.

Love some of the eye color looks, not a huge fan of the dark lipstick but it depends on the wearer's skin tone!

I love the winged eyeliner looks, I really don't like the dark lip. Also the earthy brown and red eyeshadow makes most of the models look like they are getting over a black eye.

I love the look of the bold dark lips...But it looks terrible on myself when I try this look...I love the new look of the ombre lips I wish I could pull that one off.

With dark lipstick you need white teeth, so ladies, if you smoke or drink caffeine use white-strips!
