Members' Faves: Hair Masks

Posted by ChickAdvisor Team | Monday May 16, 20116 comments

If your hair hasn't woken up from its winter coma, nourish it with a deep-conditioning mask that will restore moisture, shine and volume. Looking for one to try, we read through members' reviews for some of their faves.

1. Biolage Hydra Therapie Conditioning Balm (US$22.39)
"Though some of you might find this to be overpriced, it's definitely worth it if you have curly hair. It doesn't weigh my hair down, but gives my hair enough moisture to not frizz. I'd still recommend getting a little bit of mousse or hair creme to put in your hair afterwards, but it definitely helps. It also makes it a lot easier to de-tangle hair in the shower." -myguitarplaysit

2. Aussie Moist 3 Minute Miracle Deeeeep Conditioner (C$4.65)
"This stuff is amazing!!! It works wonders for your hair leaving it shiny, soft and manageable after only one use! I go swimming a lot and the chlorine ruins my hair, but after only one use of this deep conditioner, my hair is healthier than before! Also, it smells amazing!" -Soccer_Gurl05

3. Neutrogena Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Hair Mask (US$6.48)
"I use it once a week faithfully. I use a curl remover in my hair (that actually straightened my hair) and with any chemical service the hair gets damaged. The Neutrogena makes my hair healthy and shiny without weighing it down. Seriously, I always feel like I'm in a commercial after using this product. I totally recommend this for anyone with dry hair or hair damaged from relaxers, perms or hair coloring." -Elisabetta Solis

4. Pantene Pro-V Restore Beautiful Lengths Replenishing Mask (C$8.79)
"I was very pleased with the way it softened my hair and how healthy looking it has made my hair. Pantene Pro-V Restore Beautiful Lengths Replenishing Mask is very thick and creamy so you don’t need much as it’s easily spread through out your hair." -takoda

5. Moroccanoil Restorative Hair Mask (US$39.49)
"I have very dry, damaged, fine, highlighted hair. I have used this product 3 times in the last 4 weeks and I absolutely love it. First off, it smells so wonderful, it's thick, rich and luxurious! The directions say to leave on for 5-10 min, but I put on a shower cap and leave it on as long as I like (usually an hour). My hair comes out absolutely fabulous with this...soft, silky, healthy looking and feeling!" -Love2TryAndReview

@ Ali - I know what you mean. I need to use it more often like at least once a week but it's hard to wait that long sometimes. I have to remind myself sometimes that deep conditioning my hair is worth the wait.

I need to get on board with this. Hair masks are always something I intend to use but then never have the patience for. They are great for getting results but you have to be willing to wait for 10 minutes or more before washing out.

I'm a little confused with the definition of hair masks...I always wanted to try one, since my hair is completely fried, what with all the dying and whatnot. (see my poseoff article! I had a LOT of hair changes).
Does anyone recommend a great method that I could use for these hair masks? I'm definitely ready to try one! (probably will want to start off with the cheaper Neutrogena hair mask, due to lack of funds :P).

@ takoda - Great advice! You're totally right about blow drying, I'm going to try to not blow dry as much anymore since it's summer. I once went to a hair salon when I was in Hong Kong for a vacation. I wanted to get my hair perm straight, and when the stylist put on the hair relaxer, he was like "whoaaa your hair is so damaged!" and proceeded to call other stylists over to check out my damaged hair. Needless to say, I was SOOO embarrassed.

Tammy if you
blow dry your hair too, try and only do it when you really have to. When I was
growing my hair out and was trying my best not to get any more split ends, I completely
stopped blowing my hair out. After I’d washed it, I comb through it, put up to
three ties in it and leave it like that until I washed it again. I did that for
a good six months or more. Having a baby at the time and not having to go to
work everyday helped with having my hair tied back all the time, but it worked.
When I did finally go to the hair dresser to have a spiral perm put in, she
said my hair was in great shape. I also deep conditioned it ounce every week,
but it all helped to strengthen my hair and prepare it for any damage the perm
might cause. I know you do different things to your hair then I did, but if you
can try even doing this on your time off it might help out. The deep conditioning
products that are mentioned above will also definitely help you out.

Thanks for the suggestions! I have really damaged hair due to straightening on a daily basis and constant colouring. I have never tried any of them except for Moroccanoil and it really works! It leaves my hair feeling very soft.
