Summerproof Makeup: 21 Top Products To Try

Keeping your makeup looking fresh in the sweltering heat can be tricky. Try these  products and tips to help you beat the summer heat.

For your Face

The key for makeup that stays put is a good primer: it not only primes and evens out the surface of your skin, but also creates a barrier between your makeup and skin. Try Per-fekt Beauty Skin Perfection Gel (2) or Laura Mercier Oil Free Foundation Primer (3).

If you find your usual foundation a tad thick for the summer, opt for a tinted moisturizer like Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer (7) or only apply on areas that need coverage and set with a light powder.

Settings sprays can also help keep your makeup intact. Try Skindinavia Cool Flash Make Up Finish and Skindinavia No More Shine Makeup Finish (4). Cook flash has a surface cooling technology that holds temperature and controls oil and shine.

A common mistake to avoid during your midday touch-up is dusting on foundation powder - the extra pigment makes you look cakey. Try blotting excess oil with blotting sheets instead such as Sephora Collection's Matte Blotting Film (1), or use translucent/ blotting powder like MAC Blot powder (6) or Cover FX Matte FX Oil Absorbing & Blotting Powder (5).

Easy on the Eyes

Waterproof options prevent your eye makeup from sliding and creating the dreaded raccoon look. Start off with a good eye makeup base like NARS Smudge Proof eyeshadow base (5). Apply a long-lasting pigmented cream to powder shadow like YSL Fard Lumiere Aquaresistant Water Resistant Cream Eyeshadow (3). Try Lise Watier Feline Waterproof Mascara HD (2), Cargo Swimmables Eyeliner Set (4), Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes Eyeliner (6), or Yves Saint Laurent Aquaresistant Mascara (7).

Quick Fix: you don’t necessarily have to buy new products.  Eye makeup sealers like Make Up For Ever's Eye Seal (1) can be used with any powder eyeshadow or liner to really make them budge proof.

Lips & Cheeks

Creams, gels, and stains are ideal for summer - liquids sink and settle into the skin and won’t cake up like powder under the summer heat. Try Smashbox O Glow (1), Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Cream blush (3), or Tarte Cheek Stain (5). If you do stick with powder, go for waterproof options like Tarte Waterproof Bronzer (6) or CARGO Water Resistant Bronzer (2).

Avoid opaque lipsticks that can make your make up look heavy. Keep them light and luscious with glosses and stains. We suggest Josie Maran Magic Marker Lip & Cheek Stain (4) and Chanel Levres Scintillantes Glossimer (7).
