The “Hip” Girl on the Go: What’s in Nora’s Bag (plus enter to win!)

Name: Nora
Alias: Nora Borealis
You can spot me by my: blonde hair, pale skin, red lips, matching bike, and uniform of oversized Breton stripe tops with straight-leg jeans.

I like to be busy; overly busy, if I can be. I’m happiest when I have too many places to be and not enough time to do everything, so I’m committed to a life where a typical week includes a delightfully unpredictable schedule. Dinner plans? Sure. But why don’t we go to yoga beforehand? Will I walk your dog? Certainly, I just have to go to the antique mall first. Can I go to a basketball game this weekend? Duhhh, I can meet you when I’m done building our new garden beds with power tools I found in the basement.

Since I’m usually running around like a crazy person, I literally live out of my bag (a vintage find that is so ugly it’s cute again). If my purse isn’t bursting at the seams on any given day, it tells me one thing: I am not fully prepared. My essentials:

One nylon makeup bag filled with 14 different lip products, including CoverGirl LipPerfection Lipcolor in 'Flame'. Even if the rest of my face is telling the world I’m dead tired and completely forgot to look publicly presentable, this perfect red lipstick is telling them that I actually totally have my life together. Really.

CoverGirl NatureLuxe Silk Foundation. If I’m really baring my soul here, I bought this product because Taylor Swift was in the commercial. I’ve kept purchasing it because it comes in the right shade of pale, pale white that I need and when I wear it, people tell me I look like T. Swift. That second part isn’t true...yet.

Tampax® Radiant™ Tampons. Ever since that day in 10th grade when I had to ASK MY FATHER TO STOP AT THE PHARMACY SO I COULD BUY TAMPONS AND THE TWO OF US DIED OF EMBARRASSMENT TOGETHER, I have lived with a stash in my bag. The only thing better than having one on hand when the need arises is being able to slip one to a fellow lady in crisis. I think they call that "paying it forward", but I hate that phrase, okay?

A bike lock. I live in one of the most bike-friendly cities in North America, but you still gotta lock up your sweet ride.

A Notebook. I’m full of ideas. They’re not all winners, but I still like to have a place to round them all up. There’s not a single app I’ve found that works as well as just writing something down.

Rainbow Colored Sharpies. Sometimes my ideas just feel better in green; or purple; or pink.

Olay Complete SPF 30 Defense Daily UV Moisturizer (Sensitive Skin). My pale skin is no accident: it’s the result of a strong, pasty Irish bloodline and religious use of SPF.

One glow-in-the-dark Whistle, because sometimes I just like to hide surprises for future Nora to discover. Shhh, don’t tell her.

Nice article. I can relate completely. It's wonderful having so many hobbies - life is too interesting to not try new things. :) And yes, keeping a notebook is a great trip - with so much going on and so many ideas, it's nice to be able to write them down somewhere. Looking forward to checking out the contest.

@Takoda it's good to be back! And also to let everyone know that my dad is uncomfortable with periods. I can't wait until he reads this gem.
